Creating Map3D Centroids of Closed Polylines/Polygons with VB.NET

Hi all, I am new to VB.NET coding for Autocad Map 3D/Civil 3D 2015. I am have been having trouble trying to produce a procedure that will create MAP centroids for multiple Closed Polylines/Polygons in the same way the as the _mapcreatecentroids command does. When I run my code below I get the Fatal Error.

Any help on this matter would be greatly welcomed, as I can’t find any samples for creating CreateCentroids.

Dim CentroidObjectIds As New ObjectIdCollection()

Dim returnSelectedOjectIDs As New ObjectIdCollection()

'All Closed Polylines are selected on Layer 0 and return ObjectId's

returnSelectedOjectIDs = SelectSetAllObjects("0")

Dim acadMAP As Autodesk.Gis.Map.MapUtility = Nothing

acadMAP.CreateCentroids(CentroidObjectIds, returnSelectedOjectIDs, "0", "ACAD_POINT")

Hi,

without trying anything, just about that statement:

>> Dim acadMAP As Autodesk.Gis.Map.MapUtility = Nothing

>> acadMAP.CreateCentroids

You define a variable, set it to "Nothing" and try to call a function in it ... that can't work.

Hi Alfred, Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I was not happy with that line of code, ended up with that after trying several other alternatives.

I originally just had the line

CreateCentroids(CentroidObjectIds, returnSelectedOjectIDs, "0", "ACAD_POINT")

I have included the Namespace at the top of my class

Imports Autodesk.Gis.Map.MapUtility

However it is greyed out as not required?

When I tried just the above line of code I got the error - “Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference.”

Then after some general searching on the Reference error I tried.

Dim acadMAP As New MapUtility()

But this resulted in the error - Autodesk.Gis.Map.MapUtility.Friend Sub New()' is not accessible in this context because it is 'Friend'.

Solved the problem using the code below

Namespace - Imports Autodesk.Gis.Map

Dim CentroidObjectIds As New ObjectIdCollection()

Dim returnSelectedOjectIDs As New ObjectIdCollection()

'All Closed Polylines are selected on Layer

'This return ObjectId's

returnSelectedOjectIDs = SelectSetAllObjects("0")

Dim mapApp As MapApplication

mapApp = HostMapApplicationServices.Application

mapApp.ActiveProject.MapUtility.CreateCentroids(CentroidObjectIds, returnSelectedOjectIDs, "0", "ACAD_POINT")
