Thanks Pendean,

The tutorial was saying it's easier to annotate in Layout.

I'd love to take live classes, but unfortunately there's no one in my rural area. Totally get your point so I'll look a little further afield.

Thanks for all your help.

Kind regards

I'm a beginner, self learning with help from Jim LaPiers online tutorials. After setting the scale in Viewport, and locking, when I insert Single Line annotation, confirming size/angle, press enter, the text disappears. Previous to this I'd gone to Format - Text drop window, set Standard, no text size as setting size in Viewport. I've tried zooming in and no difference. I've searched the forums but nothing seems to apply. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the file: can you explain in more detail step by step, command by command, what you experience as a problem? Also note, "100" for a text height is kind of very small for text inside your 1:30 viewport, and way too big for paperspace text (for reference your double-doors are at 800 in modelspace).

Note: I can add text in paperspace above your viewport and inside your viewport without much challenge here, at the correct sizing.

And there is no evidence of any text outside of what I see here in your file (which is at a height of 4.0)

Hi Pendean

Thanks for looking at my dwg.
Yes this is the only text I’ve entered so far. It may be helpful to know the dwg is for a digital portfolio. So I'm thinking in terms of how the text size will appear on screen. The page is set to A1 as I have other folio pieces previously fomatted at A1 and because a Pdf has to be of one consistant page size. Do correct me if I’m wrong, there may well be an easier way.

So the font in the 1:50 dwg is ok for screen (?). I select the Single Line cmd, in cursor box, enter font size cur, enter 0 rotation, type, enter. Have tried entering twice very quick - equivalent to starting a new line and exiting the command. And have entered just once which just begins the next line. Using a 100 font in the right dwg seemed to be consistent with the left dwg(whilst typing) - until I exited the command and it reduces to a miniscule. Now writing this it seems the obvious thing to do is to just keep on increasing until, when it's at an acceptable size. Maybe when it’s large enough ACad intel will stop automatically removing/reducing the text as it considers it acceptable as it relates to the scale set.

I was following Jim La Piers guidance to annotate in Layout rather than Model spaca as it’s easier. I know there are also Annotation Scales too - but I save that til later!

Regards

Diane

Hi Diane,

When you create (edit) text, AutoCAD automatically increases the test during editing in onscreen text editor so that the text is visible for you. After the creation (editing) is completed, the text takes the height that you set when creating it.
That happens only if the size of text is too small for viewing with current zooming. If text is big enough for clear viewing, it will not be increased during editing (creation).

Addition:

MTEXTFIXED system variable affects this: if you set it to 0, text will not be enlarged during editing / creation. If you set it to 1 to 2, text will be enlarged.

OK, so if I follow correctly, you are trying to eye-ball the text size as you are creating instead of taking the time to properly identify the correct text size that need to be in place inside the larger viewport.
Is that a fair assessment? I suspect that's not what your tutorial is asking you to do, is it? Your tutorial is only about writing text in paperspace outside of the viewport.

>>>... I know there are also Annotation Scales too...<<<
You can't skip it sadly, no jumping ahead: that is what you are wanting to do, namely write text in modelspace so it appears at the correct size in paperspace through a viewport. Correct?

IMHO you ought to be paying for classes with hands-on instruction (where you can ask the instructor for help) to get started with this very complex program: you can go it alone later once you have these core basics covered.

HTH
