deleting layers

I have been trying to delete some layers for the layers palette and keep getting the same error message (see attached pic) then when I go to the Block editor I'm unable to move objects between layers as instructed.

Why you are unable to change layer of an object?
Can you describe your steps for moving object from one layer to another in more details?
And what are these instructions?

Use LAYMRG command instead to merge that layer(s) with layer 0 (zero) if LAYDEL command presents issues.
pretty much always works as long as the layer you are merging is not your current layer.

I don't have a LAYDEL command on may 2019 Mac version of autocad I'm afraid, when selecting the LAYMRG tool I'm asked to select objects but whilst they highlight I can't click on them to select them. I've attached a new pic which shows the three layers I want to delete (all of which follow Layer 0 in the layers palette and were downloaded as .dwg files from www.cadorum.cz

Yes, there is no LAYDEL command on Mac. BTW, from screenshot you attached I see you have 2020 version, but not 2019.

The names of the layers you want to delete seems to me quite strange. Can you attach here the drawing in question? I can look at it.

Very useful to know that I can drag and delete layers from the layers palette but I'm still getting the original error message - see attached.

You cannot use this trick inside block editor, because layers are saved inside block definition.
You need at first open block in Block Editor, change layer property for all objects inside block to another layer, save block, quit block editor. Now you can delete layers.
Can you share the whole drawing?

I was able to delete those layers as instructed, because the third (orange) did not have any objects that I could visibly turn off in the drawing area I could not open the BEDIT command to complete this task but did manage to make it disappear by merging them with layer 0. Is this correct or are there now hidden objects within my drawing. I've attached the file for you.

Yes, this is correct and you have no any hidden objects in your drawing as all layers are turned on and thawed.

hey I have a doubt I have layers which I can't delete and LAYDEL doesn't work im using 2023 Mac version of cad and I really need to get rid of these layers I can't delete it and its driving me crazy how can I force delete it. I know there are no objects pls help

LAYDEL command is not available on Mac, but:

You can always check the reason(s) why you cannot delete layer(s) with PURGE command:

Run PURGE command, switch to "Non-purgeable Items" and select Layer you cannot delete:
