Upgrading to 2021 and ‘3D objects display wrong, shift position, offset from grips, or move in AutoCAD’

Hello,

I am one of those people with a 2018/2019 AutoCad program suffering the ‘3D objects display wrong, shift position, offset from grips, or move in AutoCAD’ (see https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/3D-objects-are-offset-from-object-grips-after-you-reopen-the-file.html) fault in files. Many hours lost and confidence in the program eroded. I have used all the suggestions in the link above to repair the corrupted files but to not avail, so my questions to those on the forum are:

Autodesk support suggests that upgrading to the 2021 version fixes the issues. I have reasons for not upgrading my computer’s operating program, but for those that did do this did upgrading return corrupted files in 2018/19 to normal when opened in 2021?

Have others discovered a way of overcoming the problem not mentioned in the above link?

Umm, what is stopping you from just installing R2021 as a trial version to test support's theory and find out for yourself? You can keep 2018/2019 on your PC, it will not get affected at all. And all of your DWG file will remain unaffected by it all.

Thanks HTH, but as I said, I have reasons for not upgrading my operating system and 2021 will not work on what I am running presently. However, if someone informs me that corrupted files were restored when opened in the latest version I might take the plunge.

So you are using a PC with Windows 7 with SP1 ??

One Question:

Do you have a file where we can see the problem Or are you just confused for no specific reason?

Would you share a sample?

I am using Mac OS 10.12.6, and 2021 and 22 needs the latest operating system. No, I am not confused, but wanting to know if the issues shown in the link in my original email and that affect my files have been solved by those on this page by upgrading to a newer version of Autocad. It appears that ‘3D objects display wrong, shift position, offset from grips, or move in AutoCAD’ is an uncommon problem.

Thanks for the comments, but I was hoping that those using the program and that encountered the problem had overcome it. Obviously the problem is rare even though Autocad have a webpage on the issue stating fixing it occurs by upgrading.

I think the easiest way to check if the upgrade to 2021 or 2022 version will resolve the problem in your drawings is to share some of them here.

I can check your drawings in 2022 or 2023 versions of AutoCAD for Mac.

If you choose to share your drawings, please provide information (screenshots) of the objects in them, where you see "3D objects displaying incorrectly, misaligned, offset from handles, or moved."

Hi @shane.burke ,

I tried to open your drawing in 2019 and 2023 AutoCAD versions, the result was the same.

After I looked at your drawing, I don't think you have the problem described in the AKN article you mentioned in the first post.

All 3D Solid grips in the drawing you shared are in place (not shifted), there is no ghost solids in it, all solids seem to have correct shape.

What I noticed:

- indeed, some of the 3D Solids in the drawing are in wrong position in relation to the main geometry

- you have a lot of unnamed groups with 3D Solids in the drawing:

I think these groups can be the case of the issue: you can accidentally move objects you don't want to move if group selection is ON - PICKSTYLE=1

Thanks Maxim for checking the file. I am the first to admit that I am still learning this program and there are probably basic things that I am failing to do that is causing the issue. It all started when I wanted to observe a job in .stl to see how it looked - the .dwg file was fine before the export and a mess immediately after. More annoying is that in preparing to send you a file for checking I examined a number of corrupted files to discover two with no faults - I hadn't touched them. No rhyme or reason...

But thanks again. I will work on naming all groups.
