Removing block libraries in AutoCad 2023

Hello.

My block libraries are being duplicated in the drop down menu (see attached image). I would like to remove them and reload the libraries, but I can't find any way to remove them. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi @bret_wieseler ,

There is no official way to remove block libraries, but you can try this workaround:

1/ Quit AutoCAD

2/ Go to the "~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/AutoCAD 2023/R24.2/local" folder

3/ Open HKCU_V1.plist file in plain text editor. My advice: make a backup of this file in case something goes wrong.

4/ Delete all keys "HKEY_CURRENT_USER.DIALOGS.BLOCKSTREAM.BLOCKLIBRARIES.LIBRARYn" keys in this PLIST file (LIBRARYn - should show as LIBRARY1, LIBRARY2, etc.)

5/ Delete string values in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER.DIALOGS.BLOCKSTREAM.LASTACCESSEDLIBRARY" and in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER.DIALOGS.BLOCKSTREAM.LASTACCESSEDLIBRARYNODE" keys.

Now BLOCKSTREAM related keys in the HKCU_V1.plist file should look like this:

<key>HKEY_CURRENT_USER.DIALOGS.BLOCKSTREAM.@</key> <string>@Invalid()</string> <key>HKEY_CURRENT_USER.DIALOGS.BLOCKSTREAM.BLOCKLIBRARIES.@</key> <string>@Invalid()</string> <key>HKEY_CURRENT_USER.DIALOGS.BLOCKSTREAM.LASTACCESSEDLIBRARY</key> <string></string <key>HKEY_CURRENT_USER.DIALOGS.BLOCKSTREAM.LASTACCESSEDLIBRARYNODE</key> <string></string <key>HKEY_CURRENT_USER.DIALOGS.BLOCKSTREAM.LASTCRASHEDRECENTDRAWING</key> <string></string>

6/ Save HKCU_V1.plist file and launch AutoCAD

Hello, for some reason my desktop folders have ended up in my block library see screenshot below, how do I delete them? I have looked at your answer but cannot find..~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/AutoCAD 2023/R24.2/local? Im on a Mac and new to AutoCAD so any help would be appreciated.

Open Finder, use menu Go->Go to Folder, copy this path to clipboard:

~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/AutoCAD 2023/R24.2/local

And paste it to the search field:

Hit Return and you are there.

Hi, thanks for your reply - I found the file, did the edit, saved the .pline file but on re-launching AutoCAD the pesky libraries are still there!

I have uninstalled AutoCAD 2023, re-installed AutoCAD 2024 and opened a new template only to find that the unwanted folders have transferred. Any ideas on what I could try next greatly appreciated:)

Is your main problem that you cannot scroll dropdown list on the Block Libraries palette?

Hi - I can scroll the dropdown list on the libraries palette but there are 2 items on the dropdown list that I want to delete. Since installing AutoCAD 2024 and restarting my computer, all the folders/contents in these 'libraries' has gone so that's good. I would now like to delete the two unwanted items on the dropdown. See screenshot - I want to delete 'SA Trip Nov 23' and 'Desktop' (I still don't know how these two items ended up in my library palette), is there a way to delete these items?

Can you attach here your HKCU_V1.plist file which is located in

~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/AutoCAD 2024/R24.3/local

folder?

I will try to help you to remove these items and then send it to you. You will replace your current HKCU_V1.plist file with edited one.

You need to compress it before attaching to the post.

Quit AutoCAD

Backup your current HKCU_V1.plist

Download attached archive, extract HKCU_V1.plist from it

Replace your current HKCU_V1.plist with one from the downloaded archive

Launch AutoCAD and verify Blocks palette.

Hello - thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it. Unfortunatley the two unwanted libraries names are still in the drop down after replacing the HKCU_V1 plist in my finder with the one you edited. Frustrating to say the least. There is no information/folders in these libraries so I think I'll just have to live with the unwanted items in the drop down list. Thanks again 🙂

Strange.

I tried to remove block library folders with this method on my side and after I launched AutoCAD I got this:

Are you sure you QUIT AutoCAD before replacing PLIST file?
