Hello:
I am taking your advice and will try to create and edit details in the viewports. I set up a test sheet with two refs . They both look good in model space (see drawings in boxes I made to show you) but in paper space one of them, the plan is terribly distorted (see paper space drawing "test"). Why is that?

Jeff

I have an architectural drawing file with a plan, elevations and sections. I now want to create a detail sheet that has 4 XCLIP views of that single drawing file. After I made the first XCLIP the rest of the drawing clipped away, as expected, but alas I cannot make any more. How can I still access the rest of the drawing to take more XCLIPS? Do I have to make a separate file for each detail??

Thank you for any help you can lend.

Jeff

If you only wish to do this modelspace, then you need a copy of the XREF for each XCLIP you wish to create.

If you do this in paperspace, since you are only after views anyway, un-XCLIP that xref in modelpace, then create as many viewports in that layout (or layouts) as you want, each can be a unique "view" of the modelspace content that is in there just one single time.

HTH

Brilliant, thank you. I did not think you could XREF the same drawing multiple times into one new model space sheet. Very easy. Thanks.

I did look at creating the details in paper space but it does not look as trimmed and I find working in paper space challenging.

Thank you again!

Allow me to clarify, I need to xclip an area of a drawing intended to be shown at a small scale (1/4"=1'-0") to develop it as a larger scale drawing, like 1"-1'-0".

Again, the problem: I want to take several clips from for different areas. Do I need to make several copies of the xref drawing to complete the task? The file gets very big and sort of awkward with large spaces between the xclips in model space.

Is there a more efficient way to develop details from drawings intended to be shown at small scale?

Thank you in advance for any ideas

@JEFFJW9BB since XCLIP is a single-view per single-XREF type function, with no multi-clip-per-xref solution yet, you will indeed need to have a copy of the XREF for each and every XCLIP and all that will impact on performance.

OR... you can avoid it all, if this other workflow is viable for your project needs, by using layout(s) viewports (as many as you need) of the one XREF in modelspace in your top file instead.

Hello, Thank you for your reply.

I did the ETRANSMIT command and created the zip file (attached). However, and I think this is interesting, the file that is giving me trouble in paper space (the floor plan) was not available for "zipping". I see it in model space and I see it listed in the XREF manager pallet, but don't know why it was not available in the zipping box.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Jeff
