how to draw a line by specifying angle

Hi,

I'm guessing there is a simple solution to it, but I just can't figure it out on my own.

I'm trying to draw a line with a specific angle from the horizontal axis.

On the windows AutoCAD, I can easily specify the angle. But on the Mac, there isn't a block where I can specify the angle.

I'm running on OS X 10.9.5 with AutoCAD 2014

Help me out here!

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

If you have Dynamic input turned ON (see button on Status Bar or use Shift+Command+D shortcut), than you can:
- start LINE command
- pick first point, than hit Tab key, than input angle
- than hit Tab key again - the line will be constrained to the angle you input in previous step
- than input line length and hit Return or Spacebar.

If you have Dynamic Input OFF - than use traditional command prompt input:
@100<45 - this will draw a line 100 units length at 45 degree counterclockwise.

How do you customise your workspace and embed it in the program so that it automatically opens when you open Autocad ?

Hi Clarks,

AutoCAD for Mac doesn't have "Workspaces" feature.
But you can fine-tune appearance of the palettes and drawing area on screen. Next time you will start AutoCAD the settings should be not changed.

Hi Maxim

Im a building surveying student at Northumbria Uni in England and some of my assignments require me to draw plans and elevations in cad. Im a mac user and my tutor only knows about cad for windows so I'm on my own. I have learned quite a lot on cad for mac since September 2016 but this morning something strange happened.

I was looking to draw a line at a 40 degree angle from a horizontal point. I took your suggestion from another post where you said this could be done by turning on Dynamic Input. I tried this and the 0 degrees appeared to be at 45 degrees so I turned it off. The problem is that since turning dynamic input on then off, it seems to have messed with my polar tracking, object snap and object snap tracking. Now my cursor no longer finds true vertical unless there is an object to snap onto or sometimes not even then.

What is the best way to put my settings back as they were so I can continue my drawings. My assignments are due in soon 😞

Hi Paul,

If you want to reset Polar Tracking settings to the defaults, use menu Tools -> Drafting settings -> Polar Tracking tab and set everything as in this screenshot:

Everything seems correct.
Try to reset UCS and view direction.

Use UCS command to set UCS to World:

Command: UCS
Current ucs name: *NO NAME*
Specify origin of UCS or [Face/NAmed/OBject/Previous/View/World/X/Y/Z/ZAxis] <World>: <-Hit Return here
Command:

Use PLAN command to reset view direction:

Command: PLAN
Enter an option [Current ucs/Ucs/World] <Current>: <-Hit Return here
Regenerating model.

Thanks for your reply. I tried that and still the same results. Heres a couple of screen shots to demonstrate that there is no tracking vertical, just off at angles.

See if this sheds any light on the problem.

Thank you for that, it helped me so much. See, I'm an architecture student and currently I have a map where I have to draw my project, a building. The problem is that the map is rotated because of the North. I want to start a line in 45 degrees from another line that is rotated. Can someone help me?

P.S.: Sorry for my lack knowledge at English. I'm from Uruguay.
