Subtraction Function is not subtracting.

I am a student and have a final project due next monday. For some reason subtract, union, and intersect GIVE ME FITS... In this case I cannot get the 3 cylinders to subtract from the object shown (golf putter head). They are both 3d solids and cannot for the life of me understand why they wont subtract. Can someone help?

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Do you select objects correctly?
You need at first to select objects you want to subtract from, than hit Return and select objects you want to subtract, than hit Return again.

Hi Sarah,

thanx for your post.

Actually there is one big question I have about AutoCAD for Mac 2016 : why does this program crash so easily and often on my computer? Is it a general problem of the programm or is it my system? I work on a Macbook Pro running on Yosemite and with the following specs:

MacBookPro 6,1
Intel Core i7
2,66 GHz

8GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 512 MB VRAM

According to the info I found about system requirements this should work, but it doesn't really.....

How do I select Accept as Solution by the way? Couldn't find a way to do it...

Sorry about my delayed response but lets see.. There could be a number a reasons for crashing. Would you mind providing more information?

You have all the updates applied? right?
Are you running EL Captain or Sierra?
Is the crashing happening with all files or specific files?
Do you have any crash report numbers?

thanx for your responses.

I am still running Yosemite 😉

I have all updates installed.

The crashes happen in every drawing I make after a certain complexity is reached (which does not have to be very high...)

I attach my current drawing for demonstration.

When in this drawing I try to UNION the two solids the programm crashes completly, needing to be terminated via alt+cmd+esc.

I don't know where I could find crash report numbers, I attach the complete crash report, too.

I would also still be interested in an answer two my other question: How do I select Accept as Solution by the way? Couldn't find a way to do it...

Hi Len,

In the drawing you attached to your post the problem is in green 3D Solid object. When I check it with Modify -> Solid Editing -> Check menu command, AutoCAD reports: "This object is not a valid ShapeManager solid."

Command: _solidedit
Solids editing automatic checking: SOLIDCHECK=1
Enter a solids editing option [Face/Edge/Body/Undo/eXit] <eXit>: _body
Enter a body editing option
[Imprint/seParate solids/Shell/cLean/Check/Undo/eXit] <eXit>: _check
Select a 3D solid: This object is not a valid ShapeManager solid.

How did you created this solid?

I was able to reconstruct the solid with the same shape and successfully union the solids from your drawing (see the rightmost solid in the attached drawing).

In the centre I leave solid created myself (red one) not joined to the upper solid.

OK to accepted a solution you'll need to be signed in and then you will see the option "Accept as Solution" under each post in your thread.
