tiling 2 drawings on a MAC

Is it possible to tile 2 drawings on a screen with a MAC, I just got a job drafting again after 5 years away, but im accustomed to being able to have 2 on a screen and cant get it to happen with the MACs at my new job....thanks in advance!!

Dear Tony,

AutoCAD supports split view with other apps like "Preview", but it will not support for two AutoCAD windows.

There is one alternative way to keep AutoCAD windows side by side.

Open AutoCAD,

then open both the drawings you want to work on,

right click on one of the drawings on file tab,

click "Move to New Session"

It will open new window. Now resize both windows and place side by side on the screen. You can notice both the windows will overlap each other, as you can not reduce them to 50% of the screen (May be this is the reason you can not have split view in AutoCAD) Try closing all toolsets on the drawing which you are using as a reference.

You can give a try on command "VIEWPORTS" as well.

VPORTS on a Mac pus the same drawing into multiple viewports - can this please be fixed in the next release?

VPORTS command designed to create multiple viewports (views) to show Model space in the current drawing.

Let’s say I have two drawings open, a plan and a section that I want to
look at side by side. I’m in the plan drawing, I enter VPORTS, and it tiles
the plan into multiple views of the plan - identical views. It’s not
showing me the plan and section side by side. I have to open a second
instance of AutoCAD to do that.

Yes, this is normal behavior (as designed) of VPORTS command.
When you use VPORTS command, you can create tiled views only for drawing where you use this command, it cannot show you views from another drawing.
On Mac tiling separate drawings is possible only on OS level, that is why you need to use second instance of AutoCAD (since 2017 version). In previous versions (2016, 2015 ....2011) you could use tiling inside one AutoCAD instance (again on OS level), because drawing windows opened independently of each other (not in the drawing tabs) inside one AutoCAD instance.

Ok, thank you for the explanation. My suggestion would be to return it to
the way it was before in the next update, because having multiple views of
the same drawing is not very useful.

In previous releases (2016, 2015 ....2011) VPORTS command worked the same way as in current release, tiling drawing windows (different drawings) was possible only on OS level as now.
