Hi,

AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT are available for macOS, but Revit - only for Windows.

Hi Maxim,

I will be going back to school for Drafting Technology degree. Being a Mac user, I asked my new Prof about Mac software for CAD. He advised me that AutoCAD is used in class and that the Mac version available is less capable.

Do you think the upcoming AC for Mac 2018 will now have the equivalent feature set (including Ribbon, Tool Palette, etc.) as the corresponding version for Windows?

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD for Mac forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I like the new AutoCAD for Mac beta and it seems very stable. However, it has an interface that is very different than the Windows application and there are certainly feature differences as well.

The beauty of the educational license though is that you can install both the Mac and Windows versions on your Mac. If you have a license of Windows, you can install Bootcamp and then Windows. This would allow you to run both AutoCAD and Revit (windows versions). Then if you like you can reboot back to the macOS and run the Mac version of AutoCAD.

Thanks for the info and your kind welcome. The comparison you provided, does it take the new Mac Beta sw into consideration, or is was it a previously compiled 2017vs2017 comparison?

As a personal preference, I'd rather not have to Bootcamp. If the feature set ends up being equivalent, I'm hoping the switching can be manageable. I'm planning on splurging for an adequately powered Mac laptop for my class/home work, a 15" MBP with 3.1 4C and 16GB.

Based on what you see so far, past the GUI change, are you seeing any feature differences vs AD Win in this latest Mac Beta, so I could move ?

Hi @Anonymous,

The comparison only shows currently available product. I am not allowed to discuss beta products in an open forum but I encourage you to join the Beta program so you can read through that private forum so you can get a better idea of what the product can and can't do.

I know that it will not have all the features of the Windows-based product but it might have what you want.

It is good to know if you decide to go with the Mac version that you are still entitled to the Windows version as well just in case you need it for specific features such as object enablers which are not available on the Mac side.
