XRef not displayed in view port

drawing with 3 viewports on a layout. I xref'd a new file and the xref is displaying in 2 of the viewports but now the third. Any ideas? It is a nested xref.

A is xref'd to B. B is xref'd to C. C displays A in 2 of the viewports in the layout but not the third. All layers are on and thawed.

Hi David,

Check viewport overrides in the 3-rd viewport.
If you delete 3-rd viewport and create it again - do you see all nested xrefs?

Thanks for the reply. I had to reattach the xref and inadvertently put it on an off layer for that particular viewport instead of my usual viewport layer.

But a followup question... I am trying to get rid of a circular xref. I attached a titleblock (drawing A) into drawing B. I xref'd drawing B and the titleblock (drawing A) into drawing C. How can I delete the titleblock xref (A) from drawing B, but keep it in drawing C? I've tried a couple methods I found in the forum (including some purges) but haven't had any luck and (message... has multiple references. Not Detached.)

Don't attach a titleblock (drawing A) into drawing B, or if you need it in drawing B for some reason, create a copy of the title block (let's name it drawing A-1) and attach it to drawing B.

Sorry but I'm pretty sure this is completely wrong.

There are 2 types of Xref - "attachments" and "overlays". Attached Xrefs bring any nested Xrefs with them, Overlay Xrefs don't.

In Windows, you can change attach/overlay in the Xref Manager. Doing so might create some orphan references, but you should just be able to delete these.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am glad you figured out the Xref in viewport mystery. Now, as to the titleblock one. (It would actually makes this much easier if you attached your drawings a, b, & C)

I assume that in drawing A, you have created your titleblock in modelspace. When you save this drawing it can now be inserted as a block into other drawings as a block. Alternatively you can also XREF it into other drawings. If you choose the latter method, you have the option of the option of using an OVERLAY method which means that if it is XREFed into Drawing B, then if you Xrref Drawing B into another file the tileblock reference will no longer show up.

Is this what you are trying to do? if not, please attach your sample files so I can make a bit better suggestion for you.
