Help using the "-DWG" command & converting a file from Imperial to Metric.

Hi guys,

I have an imperial template file that i want to use for a metric project. for the units conversion i am using [-DWG] command.

1/ Trying to understand the "Scale objects from other drawings upon insert" prompt. If i select yes and import an object that is 1' from an imperial drawing will it be scaled to the metric drawing as 0.304M?

2/ Trying to understand the "Scale in current drawing to reflect change in units" prompt. If i select yes and will an object that is 1' become 0.304M in my new metric drawing?

3/ How do i make the hatches reflect the new Metric standards ?

4/ I there anything other than the:

-DWG command prompts

INSUNITS

Sheet to Metric standard sizes

Scale Paper space template to match new metric sheet

Viewport scales to metric

Dimension style

Anything else i need to change for a proper conversion ?

Hi Solomon,

I think you meant "-DWGUNITS" command, but not "-DWG".

Yes, if you will select 6 (meters) in the first prompt "Unit for length" of -DWGUNITS command.

Again - Yes, if you will select 6 (meters) in the first prompt "Unit for length" of -DWGUNITS command.

All newly created hatches will reflect Metric standards (keep in mind that hatch pattern definitions in acadiso.pat file reflect metric standards if one drawing unit equal 1 mm, but not 1 meter). You need to update all existing hatches in the drawing.

INSUNITS - will be changed during -DWGUNITS command if you will answer "Yes" to all additional prompts:

Scale objects from other drawings upon insert? [Yes/No] :
Match INSUNITS to drawing units? [Yes/No] :

Scale objects in current drawing to reflect change in units? [Yes/No] :
Include objects in Paper Space? [Yes/No] :

Sheet to Metric standard sizes and Scale Paper space template to match new metric sheet - -DWGUNITS will scale paper size if you will answer Yes to "Include objects in Paper Space? [Yes/No] :" question

Viewport scales to metric - you need to adjust viewport scales

Dimension style - you need to create new dimension style

Thank you for continuous support.

I have created a new acadiso file for the new metric file & sheet. Settings are behaving as they should with the exception of hatches. Model space is 1:1, INSU set to meters [6]. Could you advise on the following:

1/ To your response "In acadiso.pat file reflect metric standards if one drawing unit equal 1 mm, but not 1 meter": Does that mean that on a setting of 1 drawing unit = 1 Meter [INSU set to 6] and not 1 mm i will have to be setting my hatch scale to 0.01 with each new hatch?

2/ I am seeing ANSI layers and ISO layers as i have copy/pasted drawings i had in my Imperial file's model space to this metric file's model space. Can i purge all layers in the newly created metric file and reload only ISO layers ?

3/ How can i update all existing hatches in the drawing in response your comment below?

I newer use drawing setup when 1 AutoCAD unit = 1 meter, but always use 1 unit=1 mm. And this is common practice for architectural drawings.

1/ Actually - yes, but I in fact hatch scale depends on your standards (or standards of your company)
2/ Yes, you can purge all ISO layers, if they are not used in the drawing. But again - it all depends on your standards.
