Hello;

This is certainly a kludge on AutoDesk's part.

The /f and /F is an Mtext formatting code for a change of font. It has the syntax of: \f<font>|<font attribs>; where everything but the "\f" and ";" are optional. So the kludge is to put the "\f" at the end of the of Primary Units Suffix and the ";" in the beginning of the Alternate Units Prefix. This gets rid of the opening "[".

Putting the "\f" at the end of the Alt Unit Suffix will get rid of the closing "]".

Testing has shown that instead of just "\f", this kludge would work just as well if one used "\fArial". Note that the \fArial does not change the font of anything following the ";" in the Alt Unit Prefix.

Testing has shown that a \X can be used in place of the ";" in the Alt Unit Prefix. It does not look like other Mtext formatting codes will work that way.

Michelle

PS: I have pdf with an extensive listing of Mtext formatting codes.

So i've already seen a post for this but didn't found out yet the answer or the solution. When i have my alternative dimensions active, imperial and metric i want rounded backets in the alternative dimensions. I can do that if i change the suffix and prefix but that changes my font as seen in the attach file. Is there a solution for this? To keep like the number 1 dimensions but with rounded brackets?

Im using the Autocad LT 2025 version

Yes this solution doesn't changes your alternate dimension's font to match with what's set under DDIM's> Text> Text style setting: How to change dimension brackets to parenthesis in AutoCAD

But try this at command prompt:

Dimstyle or DDIM

Select Style & click on Modify

Primary Units>

Suffix: \f

Alternate Units>

Prefix: \X\f;(

Suffix: )\f

Placement: After primary value

I tried various combinations and could not find one that would keep the font and stay on the same line with parentheses instead of brackets. Now that you have an idea of what to do you can try more combinations on your own to see if you can end up with the result you want. But if not you’ll have to decide if you really want the parentheses instead of brackets then either end up with different fonts or having the alternate show below the primary. Sounds like a wishlist item to submit to Autodesk.

Imperial foot inch system is definitely something you have to get used to especially working in architecture where everything goes back to the inch but needs to be set to scales that are also based on feet. But for the metric system what drives me crazy is when you have the option of not only drawing in mm but also cm or meter. But then in layout everything goes back to mm.

Thanks for the clue @h_s_walker

Since @Joao5W7MQ is using Arial as the font then the formatting would then look like this under Alternate Units:

Hello;
