You do know we are all end users like you, right?
There is an installation forum that Autodesk staff frequent: you can also contact Autodesk direct through many paid options if you want more direct assistance.

Post back if you cannot find those links.

Recently our company upgraded several licenses to Autocad 2011 LT. However it very hard to work because on both computers Autocad 2011 LT feezes for 7-20 seconds when part or the whole drawing is being selected and the copy command (ctrl+c) is being applied - in status bar "not responding" sign appears and one CPU core is being loaded at 100%. One PC is HP ProBook 655 - Core i5 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, Intel X-80M SSD @ Windows 7 Pro 64bit SP1, the other one is Lenovo with Athlon X2 3800 and 2GB RAM.

I tried one of the methods suggested for Windows 7 - check "disable desktop composition" and check "run as administrator" but it did not help. Also would like to mention that drawings we are working with are not large.

Looking forward to your answer soon,

Anton

CTRL+C is COPYCLIP, copying to the Windows Clipboard, or did you change it to COPY command?

Was the older AutoCAD installed on the same PCs (and not this problem, correct)?

Did you 'migrate' from the older version during or after installation? Or is this issue present regardless?

By chance is your anti-virus set up to scan AutoCAD 2011's activities? CPU running up to a 100% usually (not always) means more than one application is working. As a test, shut down all background running apps and try again.

The thing is - every other function seems to be working fine. Maybe "ctrl+c" realy is not what I need and it somehow tries to process the copied contents for further use in other windows apps? When I right-click on the selection - I see no "copy" comand - is there a internal Autocad copy comand which does not put the selection into clipboard?

Sorry for the late reply: running LT2011, Win7 64bit Pro here, all bells/whistles turned on (but I did not install SP1 yet) and have none of these issues. So the remote assistance thing is going to be tough.

You did not answer one of my questions: did you turn off all background running apps and try it?

Since the "not responding" error is generated by Windows, it means LT is doing something else or something is delaying it/making it pause. You can search the internet for "not responding" and you will see it everywhere sadly, it's unhelpful at best.

So to figure out what is truly going on, you will have to dive into Win7's tools and see what is offered up:

- You say you've turned off Win7's Aero themes, good.

- Change the default color depth (Windows display settings) from 32-bit to 16-bit: find this usually under the display settings for the video card, under the "List All Modes" option on the adapter tab of the monitor's display (under Appearance and Themes in Control Panel or context-click on your desktop).
- In Personalization and Display settings (Right click the Desktop, Choose Personalize, and Choose Display) set it to Medium -125% (default). Then click Set custom text size (DPI), and set it to 100%.
- Rule out driver and software issues: reboot the computer using MSCONFIG. You eliminate Windows Services, foreground applications, background applications, drivers (including display drivers) and other applications or services. If it works here start troubleshooting the display adapter drivers then everything else that Windows did not load in this special boot but are loaded when starting normally.

In LT2011, do the following:

- Change ROLLOVERTIPS variable to 0 (off)
- Turn off SelectionCycling, SC button (green/white box with a plus next to it) at bottom of screen
- Turn off any palette transparency.
- Turn off the modeless layer palette: don't just minimize.
- Set SHOWLAYERUSAGE variable to 0 (off).
- Set QPMODE variable to 0 (off)
- Update your video card drivers here (if any, otherwise try your PC vendor or video card vendor's websites): http://www.autodesk.com/autocad-graphicscard
- Turn the ribbon off by picking a classic workspace as a last resort, see if it helps at all.

to Pendean

I tried all the tips suggested by you - result is just the same, after copying and pasting even a small black of the drawing (was doing in terms of one drawing) the system freezes for >=10 seconds. Turning off the options did not even slightly decreased the waiting time so I guess the poblem is elsewhere.

The videocard on the laptop is AMD Radeon HD 4500 series, Catalyst version 11.3.

Please see the video of the process: www.balticcoal.com/upload/autocad_2011_LT_freeze_cut.avi

Could you please suggest other solution?

So it freezes for 10-seconds and then comes back, all the time? Turn off your wireless, and disconnect from the network, same thing still happens?

copy/paste runs through Windows Clipboard, outside of AutoCAD: does the program freeze if you remain within the program (regular COPY command)?

Did you visit the Autodesk site for a video card driver for your laptop? Your listing of driver means nothing to me unfortunately.

"not responding" sadly is a Windows function, and is practically a fact of life in Win7 (happens mostly in Outlook and Powerpoint for me, see it occasionally in AutoCAD when I become impatient switching files or trying to force a SAVE). If you are ever bored and want a good reading you can explore here:
http://ask-leo.com/not_responding_what_does_it_mean_and_what_do_i_do_about_it.html

The sequence I use is: mark selection, then right-click and choose "copy selection" then specify the point where to copy (inside that very drawing from where I copy) and hit "enter" to accept. You could see it on the video linked to my previous post.

Tried to disable all the network connections including wired, wireless and bluetooth - no impact - the Autocad 2011 LT freezes just the same. By "freeze" and "not responding" I mean that it does not react on any of my actions untill it finally puts the copied (by "copy selection" - the internal Autocad function) contents.

The same story is on the other mobile workstation which uses nVidia Quadro graphics - so I am afraid it is not the hardware fault and is not connected with videocard.

Am open to suggestions.

So if you type COPY and continue with the command, the same thing happens? Or only with right-click?

This happens in all files, even if you start a new file?

Since both of your issues are on laptops, not my experience, I think we've worked thorugh all the easy solutions to try. I doubt it is file related but if you want to post one for others to try you can.

By DYNMODE I assume you mean dynamic input mode. I toggled that first and no change. It seems to be more about a copy paste function as though it has trouble pulling a copied element from the clipboard? I was thinking it was trying to access comething across the network to copy/past butI have the program installed on my local hard drive. I also get the same problem with mirror or anything that requires a copy - no other issues with any other function and my pc is very fast.

Tried to turn the DYNMODE off - no change. Experimented with copy function (copy selection) in different drawings and noticed no dependence - in some drawings the "copy selection" function works normally even with large blocks, however in other it freezes the Autocad application for 10-15 seconds even when copying just a few lines connected together.

Would like to remind that we use licensed Autocad 2011 LT and to my mind such a behavior from an expensive product is unacceptable. Please suggest an effective solution otherwise I will be forced to turn to the customer care and ask for moneyback or upgrade to the Autocad LT version which does not have problems with trivial "copy" function.

You do know we are all end users like you, right?
There is an installation forum that Autodesk staff frequent: you can also contact Autodesk direct through many paid options if you want more direct assistance.

Post back if you cannot find those links.
