Masking Problem

Masked annotative text okay n model space, but in layout the mask extends all the way across

the view. See attached. Various solutions suggest changing the text width, but min is fixed

and doesn't allow a change. Is it setup wrong in text style or Mtext???

Select your viewport in paper space and look at the properties palette and check what the annotative scale of the viewport is. Then go to model space and check the annotative scale of model either on the status bar or with nothing selected look on the properties palette. Make sure to set them the same. Each different anno scale will have different placement and masking for text.

Thanks. I have 4 different payout scales. Checked each as

suggested. All appear to be correct. Before you responded, I fixed the masking problem

but it was time consuming! I each of the 4 payout scales I had to zoom out far enough that

the right hand diamond was visible and then drag the size back to a point in line with the

right side of the widest text. There must be a better way.

I tried the suggested solution but found the scales in the layout and model space

for all 4 scales are the same in both layout space and model space.

@PJohnSmits this might help, but then if you want to have your text within a certain area you have to manually input returns for you text.

Change the width of the MTEXT to 0. It will then only mask as far as the rightmost character and no more.

Instead of dragging all the widths individually select them all and on the properties palette change the Paper Defined Width to 0 if its annotative and defined width if it's not annotative

The define width is grayed out.

Tried to attach a screen shot of my properties, but it doesn't\seem to have worked.

@PJohnSmits It's because your text has Dynamic columns. On the properties palette change the Dynamic to No columns and then you can change the width. I wouldn't use columns in every text entity, use only when needed.

You have an override in place: in AutoCAD, you cannot have both features active

How do I change the columns being mask dynamic to no columns once instead of in

each case?

I have a control panel block that is 0.84' wide at 1:1 in model space. When I set annotative scales to 1"=20', 1"=60' and 1"=40' the silly thing is like 20 times, 60 times and 40 times wider in paper space. I just can't seem to get it right.

I end up setting it as non annotative and just a consistent width just so it won't look stupid. I'm very new to using

annotative text and can't seem to get the blocks right.

Hi @PJohnSmits if you set the variable MTEXTCOLUMN to 0 then all new mtext you create won't have columns.

@PJohnSmits You can change all selected MTEXT columns settings to NONE in PROPERTIES in one move.
You'll need to deselect/reselect them all, you can then set WIDTH and "mask".

I’ve linked an AutoCAD floor plan into my revit project to do some shop drawings and I’ve got some gremlins I can’t seem to get rid of. The CAD file is from a client that I haven’t worked with before, so I don’t know their exact methods, but what I seem to have is a bunch of mtext on the plan that has the background mask option enabled. These masks showed up as yellow when I imported the file. I went through my routine of hiding everything I didn’t want to see in my view template, change everything to black and halftone it but I’ve still got these grey rectangles from the text masks everywhere https://routerlogin.uno/. I’ve deleted the text from the file entirely and reloaded, but it remains. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

@lekhanani01 Please share the DWG file here or if that's not an option contact the DWG file creator and you two discuss how to remove them: if they remained after the text was deleted then they were not "background masks" but additional elements floated under the text.
