Hi,

We can open and edit the cadd .dwg file, after saving the file (e.g. SB-SO0123-Kallang-), we can see the updated image from the preview. But when we are trying to open the file, the errors appeared and even when trying to recover the file, it can be recovered. we cant close any cadd file as we are afraid of losing data.

Here are a few suggestions to help troubleshoot the problem:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of the CAD software: Ensure that you are using the most up-to-date version of the CAD software you are working with. Updates often include bug fixes and improvements that may address the file compatibility issues you are encountering.

2. Check file compatibility: Verify that the CAD software you are using supports the version of the .dwg file you are trying to open. Different versions of CAD software may have varying levels of compatibility with file formats. If you are using an older version of the software, it may not support newer .dwg file formats.

3. Try opening the file on a different computer: Attempt to open the problematic .dwg file on a different computer with the same or a different CAD software. This will help determine if the issue is specific to your computer or software installation. If the file opens successfully on another computer, there may be a problem with your CAD software installation or system configuration.

4. Repair or reinstall CAD software: If the issue persists, you may want to consider repairing or reinstalling the CAD software on your computer. Corrupted or incomplete software installations can sometimes lead to file compatibility issues.

5. Contact technical support: If none of the above steps resolve the problem, it is advisable to reach out to the technical support team of the CAD software you are using. They will have the expertise to assist you further and provide specific guidance based on the software version and the error messages you encounter.

Remember to always keep regular backups of your CAD files to minimize the risk of data loss.

@ning.yuWGMA7 If you never knew it before today, the preview image is just a static raster screenshot that is buried in the DWG file. There is no live-view of a DWG file, that's fallacy you need to dispose of quickly. previews literally mean nothing when it comes to file health.

Autodesk offers this long list of ways to try and access damaged files, explore at will https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCAD-File-Corruption.html

Your posted very small 293kb sized DWG file (that's too small for the image you posted IMHO) has 4 errors according to AutoCAD/LT 2023's RECOVER command but never opens. Sorry, this file is lost to eternity now.

Start looking for backups of that file (you should be backing up all of your files daily and weekly and monthly, yes?) as well as possible AutoCAD backups as explained here https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Understanding-AutoCAD-backup-and-autosave-files.html

Sorry for your loss.

Looks like the dwg is beyond recovery. Use Windows Explorer & rename the problem file to something matching file name with -bad.dwg and then look in the same folder as drawing for a file matching file name with .bak extension and rename this to the actual drawing file name with .dwg file extension.

See if now you're able to open this older drawing file with data.

If this save file corruption to the M: drive happens often specifically with this computer, you should investigate all the network components that connects the computer to the network M: drive such as:

computer's built-in or added network card/port

network cable connecting computer to the data port on the wall

the data port on the wall itself

the port location where this data port connects into the server room
