F8 key

Hi All,

Sometimes when I press the F8 key i get COPCLIP Select objects: <ortho on> or <ortho off> depending. It also cancels the ortho command although it does activate it. It's really annoying and I need to know why it's happening and if there is a solution.

Hi @Anonymous,

Did anything change on your system?
Did you add any new customization or third party apps?
If you reset your settings to default does this issue still happen ( save a copy of your settings as needed) ?

Also...

What AutoCAD LT release are you running?
What are your system specs? WIN 7,8,10?
Have you applied all service packs / hotfixes?

Check to see if your keyboard function keys have dual functionality. Sometimes I hit the lock key (F12) on my MS keyboard and F8 does not turn ortho on and off. I have to press the F12 key again to get ortho back to the F8 key.

I'm on LT 2017 (installed 1 month ago) running on windows 10.

This doesn't happen all the time. I am on it as I speak and the F8 is working fine. TBH my old CAD (mechanical desktop 2013) did it as well. I think it must be my computer rather than CAD but I just wondered if anyone else had this issue and how they resolved it.

There is no cure for something that does not happen all the time and that can be replicated at will.

Are you using a keyboard that has dual-function F-keys? Many laptops has this "feature" too. You turn them off in the drivers that control these devices usually.

Random issues are sometimes the hardest to troubleshoot. I would suggest taking a look at the dual function keys capabilities and or test AutoCAD on a separate machine for a day to see if the issue occurs (preferably a system that does not have a dual function keyboard).

Following up on this thread, were you able to try any of the suggestions mentioned.

Try resetting to defaults (save a copy of your settings as needed)
