My name is Michael. I work for a Landscape Architecture firm and we use AutoCAD LT every day.

We currently have one computer using AutoCAD LT. We would like to have two computers that have the program. Can you please assist me in how we can have AutoCAD LT on multiple computers under the same license?

I have read this on your website:

"Note: MSS licensing compatibility is limited by product and version. You should refer to product-specific documentation to determine compatibility. Version 2004 and older products are ineligible for MSS licensing."

I have been told different from multiple resources. Am I missing something? Thank you for your time.

Hi

It is possible to have multiple seats (seats are how many instances of a license you own, 1 seat = computer) on a license. For example 5 seats on a license would allow you to use the same license and serial number to activate your software on 5 computers.

There are certain criteria that have to be met before a new license can be merged into an existing license. If you buy your new license from a re seller they should be able to check this for you and do the merge.

If you can tell me which country you are based in I might be able to recommend a re seller for you.

Purchase a second license and install it on the second computer.

You don't buy one license and then have two users using it.

AutoCAD LT does not support network licensing (at least it used to not, maybe things are different today?) - which allows you to install as many times as you want but only X number of people can run it at any one given time (X being how many you buy).

Hi Michael,

As indicated here in the thread, a new license under subscription is likely to be the best solution for your setup. AutoCAD LT does not support network licensing so you will need to purchase another one for the second computer.

If the second computer is at home though you can install the same license as long as it is not used concurrently with the work computer.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post fully solves your issue or answers your question.

Hi,

I have autocad LT 2017 on my work computer and chats/forums say it can also run at a home computer but not concurrently,

How do I install the 2nd one on my home computer? ... perhaps I just run the original executable that I downloaded earlier this year and installed on my work computer, on my home computer.

i.e. do I run my original "AutoCAD_LT_2017_NWL_English_Win_32_64bit_wi_en-us_Setup.exe", on my home computer? (I still have this downloaded file)

Also what happens if I try to run it on my work computer while someone tries to run it at home... Will one mess up the other somehow?

Thank-you very much whoever can help me!

Alvin

Hi @JonLand11,

Yes, installing on a second computer is allowed in the EULA as long as both copies are not running concurrently. To install on the other computer you can either download a fresh copy or use the original exe file.

Once installed, I suggest that you also go into your account and install hotfixes and updates to make sure that you are totally current.

If both copies get turned on at the same time nothing wrong will happen to your drawings but you are technically violating the EULA. When your computer does a license check and sees more than one instance of the license in use it might not let the other location startup properly.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

If, as I suspect, the work license is "owned" by the employer you'd better get official permission from them to start doing this first. If you do it "off the books" and the boss later decides to do this themselves, or for another employee, that can get sticky. They may also deny permission outright to prevent moonlighting on the companies dime, which could be bad for you if this causes a conflict of interest.
