I just installed AUTOCAD LT 2017 on my

Surface Book Windows 10 Pro

i7-6600U CPU @ 2.60GHz 6.81 GHz

16.0 GB

64 Bit

I am having issues with the F8 Command (Ortho) freezing or taking along time to respond (60 plus seconds). If I use the ortho icon in the bottom tool bar it responds instantly with no lag. Please help I use this key 5-10 per min or at least I use to...

This is an ongoing issue that has started with the release of a Windows update and is currently being worked on by our development team and other technical specialist.

I will go ahead and escalate this thread and attach it to the open defect number. I would suggest adding your comments to the thread mentioned by Dean as well. This thread is also being closely monitored. I will do my best to provide an update to this thread if anything else should be applied or tested.

I use Autocad 2016 and after windows update anniversary I have same problem. I have found like workaround to set TEMPOVERIDDES from 1 to 0. After this changement switch F8 ortho on/ortho off don't freeze anymore, but Shift key to enable temporarily ortho don't work anymore.

I noticed this issue recently too. Its been driving me up the wall. I found that if you tap your Alt key twice, it lets you complete "F8" assisted commands, whether its move, line, etc. Its by no means a solution but it lets you continue till there's a fix.

I have a feeling that F8 is a short cut key for windows 10 to switch between screens or apps(not sure), but with that said its almost like clicking on another window mid command, which is why it appears as if the screen is frozen. Hitting ALT moves you out and back into CAD and for what ever reason it "un-freezes." This took hours to pin point. I had to eliminate keyboard as the source, as sometime my keys would get stuck and create similar issues.

I thought F8 was freezing my screen too then I figured I'd do other things while I waited for it to work and I'd click to a web browser or spread sheet and I'd click back to autocad and bam! It would always be working again.

Figured ALT would help speed up the process. So added ALT to muscle memory. I'm sure by the end of the week it will be second nature.

Not enough info...
Is TEMPOVERRIDES variable set to zero yet? Do so if not.
Is 2017 fully patched and updated? Needs to be, a typical install will not do that for you.
What is your OS?
Video Card?
Did you migrate from an older version as part of the 2017 installs?
Is this a problem in ALL files?
The only thing that has help was disabling the HARDWARE EXCELLERATOR. I said help, but not by much. The computer doesn't freeze, but it's terribly slow and for what I bought, slow should not be an issue.

I have a brand new MSI WT72 i7, laptop with Nvidia quadro M2000M graphics card. It has two drives. C: 119 GB 😧 912GB
The computer was recently reset to factory standards. I reinstalled Windows 10 and all the updates.
I installed Autocad Architecture 2017 and all the updates.
It happens with all the file, it doesn't matter. Since this is a new computer I did not migrate anything over.
TEMPOVERIDES is set to 0.

Patricia L.
Where are your files stored?
How is your PC connected to that source? Is a server, what is the OS?
Did that location also change/upgrade?
Is COPY command the only slow thing? How about MOVE? How about ARRAY? How about other commands?
Or do you mean COPY/PASTE?
