Cannot get dialog boxes and pull down menus to display properly

I've got a new system running an Nvidia GEForce 1070 GTX graphics card, and I'm running AutoCAD LT 2017. I also have (had) AutoCAD LT 2014; same problem on this machine, but it worked just fine on my old laptop with monitor. For some reason the dialog boxes and drop down menus are vertically compressed, such that they're unusable. See below.

The first one shows the MTEXT dialog box - as you can see, nothing is available in it for text editing.

The 2nd one shows what I see when I use the "open" command. As you can see, the directory structure is vertically compressed.

The 3rd one shows the Layer drop down menu. Same problem. Any ideas on how to fix this?

If you use AutoCAD/LT2017, go grab the 2017.1.1 update (notice the "point one point one" in the name) from your active subscription-only updates page https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates

Note: It doesn't solve all the problems, just many of them. A better fix will probably show up in AutoCAD/LT2018 later this year or AutoCAD/LT2019 next year.

But... AutoCAD/LT2017 for students and short-term leases AND AutoCAD/LT 2016 and lower were not designed for high-res monitors AND AUTODESK HAS NO PLANS TO CHANGE THAT REALITY. These versions will only run on displays set to 1920x1080 (also try 2560x1440 and up to 2560x1600 if you have that option) and at 100% text scaling (no more than 125% text scaling).

To add:

Try applying the newest update for AutoCAD LT 2017 it should help with AutoCAD LT odd display.

As for AutoCAD LT 2014 Dean pretty much covered the situation for that release on high res screens.

Post back if the update for AutoCAD LT 2017 doesn't help.

I show no updates in my account when logging into Autodesk or using the AutoCAD Desktop App. It appears I am running the latest and greatest version of LT.

I've attached screen grabs for LT 2014 and LT 2016. This is all I can see. I can scroll through it but I can't expand it, which is the problem I'm having with all the dialog boxes.

Friend, with LT2014 and LT2016 this is all you can do:

Translation since it appears you got overwhelmed by the lingo in that link: your WIndows 10 display needs to be set to no higher than HD format (1920x1080) and text scaling needs to be set to 100%. That's it. From your screenshots it appears you've not done that yet.

Win10 can sometime not let you do the above: if that is the case, read this https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/can-no-longer-select-1920x1080-resolution-for-my/94d6c85c-db80-43bc-86bd-aafecd3f38fd

Ultimately, for the true fix, you need to subscribe to LT2017 and then get the 2017.1.1 update to be able to go back to the high res display on your monitor.

Sorry to say, but your new PC's 4k display is not designed for old LT2014 or LT2016 and Autodesk is no planning on ever fixing them.

Thank you for staying tuned to my problem - it is much appreciated. When I posted a bit earlier, I believe I mistakenly said one of the screen grabs was from LT 2016. It's actually the LT 2017 subscription. So I do have that and am experiencing the same problems with it as I was experiencing (and still am) with LT 2014.

As I said in a previous post, I do not see the 2017.1.1 update available in the update area, either logging in to Autodesk or using the Autodesk Desktop App. Also, when I try to manually update, I am told it is up to date. So I'm not sure where to go from here...

...I just took these screen grabs from the Autodesk Desktop App. They show I'm running LT 2017, it is up to date, and the version currently installed. Not sure if this helps.

Sorry my response is a little late...

But from your screengrab of 2017 you haven't applied the 1.1 update if you look at mine it says.

For the 2014 release your options are limited to the article attached in this thread for the most part. If you still have a problem after applying the update post back. Thanks.

Thank you both for your patience with me. I went back into the downloads and updates section of Autodesk to take a screenshot of what previously was (I swear) a blank screen, and lo and behold there's the 1.1 update. I have dutifully (and sheepishly) installed it and hard booted the machine. The good news is it fixes some problems, but not all of them. I'm still getting some vertical compression and, for instance, the About dialog box is still the same - see attached screen grabs.

The command line/text is now NOT huge, as it was previously, and when I use the open command, I don't get the vertical compression I was getting earlier, but that is still evident in the drop down menus.

Big red welt on forehead from banging it against the wall...

I forgot to mention - screenshot 17 is what I see when I attempt MTEXT. I cannot see all the options normally displayed in the MTEXT dialog box.

What do you have your windows font set to? Try changing / modifying initially try 100.

Could you provide another screenshot of say the Layer properties dialog box?

I've been playing with the scaling and the font size. Changing the scaling seems to help whereas changing the font size seems to make no difference. Screenshot 18 is what the layers dialog box looks like keeping the scaling set at the "recommended" 300%. Screenshot 20 shows it at 200%. If I go to 100% scaling, I may as well be working in braille since everything becomes so small.

Also note that when I set the scaling to 200%, I changed the font size, varying it from 6 pt. to 10 pt. and there was no difference in how the layer dialog box displays.
