Hello Guys, is there a problem with Autocad Lt 2017 that does not allow the f5 toggle to work? It is supposed to make my isoplane change from direction to direction. I am using a HP note book. I can change it by going to the icon drop down and manually change it, it is too slow. Am I missing something?

Peter

Hi @phas50,

Thank you for posting your question here in the AutoCAD LT community!

Do any of the other function key shortcuts work, or have they all stopped working for you? (Try F8 to toggle ORTHO, for example)

Does the F5 shortcut lock up the program or trigger something else to happen?

Have you installed all of the available updates for AutoCAD LT 2017?

First, make sure you've installed all available updates for AutoCAD LT 2017. Check your Autodesk Desktop App for available updates. There is a hotfix for a function key freezing issue caused by the Windows 10 Anniversary update.

There is a Windows 10 F Key Hotfix that was released for AutoCAD 2017 products earlier this year.

Second, if the software is fully up to date, try the suggestions in the following two articles:

F8 function key does not toggle Ortho in AutoCAD (this may also apply to other function keys, such as F5)

Keyboard function keys do not work in AutoCAD

It does work, just not directly, the isoplane (F5) only works once the isometric snap is turned on which has to be done from the "dsettings" dialogue on the "snap and grid" tab and selecting "isometric snap" from the snap type, from what I can find there is no shortcut for this, apparently the command "isodraft" does all this automatically, so it would be best to look that up in help (there is a toggle icon at the lower right of your screen

Hello Guys, thank you so much for all the responses, the problem is also with my brother's lap top which is the same make and model. HP Notebook. F5 Toggle only works when you hold down the shift key, you have to hold down shift while using the F5. This is annoying as it takes both hands to do a toggle. I think it is my lap top and not the cad program. I have Autocad LT 2017. Love you guys.

Peter.

If the F5 is physically working you should see activity on the command line, but of course, it could be down to the keyboard type, I use a Lenovo yoga and that requires you to use a double key press as well for all the function keys, and unfortunately there is nothing Autocad can do to help you with that.

Hi @phas50,

Thank you for the additional information. Did you try the suggestions in the articles from my previous post?

Based on your new information, I'd try the solution described in this article, in particular: F8 function key does not toggle Ortho in AutoCAD

Some manufacturers set the function keys up as multimedia keys by default, which requires you to use a different combination (SHIFT+F5 in your case) to get the function key result you expect in AutoCAD. Try that solution and let us know if it works for you.

Thank you Guys so much. I should have given a historical sequence of events. Firstly, I bought the cheapest lap top I could find, 245 dollars. It does not have many of the features that other lap tops have. As a result I cannot change what many of the keys do. I have to live with CTRL F5 to toggle. Lol, I will buy a new lap top soon and I will toggle even in my sleep. So I have given up on anything new coming from my lap top.

Thank you very much for all the help and support. If I seem slow to answer it is because I live and work in New York City and I am up at 5am and don't get home until 6pm.

Peter
