Can you post two drawings. One as in the left image, and one where you've copy and pasted the dim as in the right image.

Also have you checked the font style as well?

Hi,

I am having an issue with the Background Mask Offset changing on a dimension style between drawings. As you can see below, the Background Mask on the dimension is tight to the text, however when I copy these dimensions to a new file (without the Dimension Style within it), the Background Mask Offset increases and intersects the dimension line.

Correct Background Mask Copied Dimension (Increased Background Mask)

Does anyone know of a variable which might be causing this issue? Unfortunately as this isn't an MTEXT item, there isn't the option to edit the Background Mask settings and alter the Boarder Offset Factor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I'm not entirely sure why it's happening. There could be a problem in the other file you're pasting the style into.

As an experiment I copy and pasted from the good into the bad and I got the same problem.

HOWEVER when I pasted into a totally blank metric template (opened from the start tab) the dim pasted as you want.

EDIT: I've just found the problem. Not sure about the solution though.

I exploded the dimensions in both drawings so they would become MTEXT objects. In the correct drawing the background mask offset is 1.1, and in the wrong drawing it's 1.25.

You need to set the background mask for text in the wrong drawing to 1.1

Excellent!

Thank you for investigating into it and finding the issue. By any chance would you know the Drawing Variable/Command which controls this? At the moment I can only find the MTEXT option of changing the Background Mask, and this doesn't seem to alter the Dimension background mask.

Thanks

There is something fundamentally wrong with that "Incorrect Dimensions" drawing. I'm assuming it's supposed to be a template. If it is I suggest you create a new one from scratch.

I copied and pasted all the items from model space in that drawing into a totally blank drawing and the background mask worked fine.

I even checked one of my own dimensions in your drawing and the background mask changed from 1.1 to 1.25

You're correct, there seems to be something wrong within the "Incorrect Dimensions" file. However, even when I've deleted and purged everything (including Dimension, Table, and Text Styles) from the file, the background mask is still incorrect when pasted in.

Unfortunately this file has been used to create a lot of sheets within our project already, so starting these files again would take a lot of time. If there is no fix, I will have to change our Dimension Style on all the drawings and increase the Text Offset.

Thanks for all your help so far; If you have any lucky on figuring out what might be the issue with the files, that would be amazing!

I've copied all your model and paper space items to a new drawing.

You should use it from now on and hopefully you won't have any more problems with the dimension gap
