topic Wipeout functionality in AutoCAD LT Forum

I've been meaning to ask this for a while now! It seems the Wipeout function has had its functionality stripped down to an ultra basic level i.e. it only works with lines. Also, you have to pick points rather than have it wipeout a defined boundary.

Am i missing something or should i be approaching this function using say a hatch or the like now in LT2019?

I often use wipeouts for coloured elevations and the like and worrying i am missing something as it doesn't make sense to take a backwards step with such a useful command.

Works as it always does here: can you elaborate in way more detail on how exactly you use it (so everyone else can try to replicate) and how it is failing exactly? or post a sample DWG file and add notes inside it on how to replicate your issue.

I'm sure you used to be able to wipeout any shape so circles, arcs or any combination of them. Also, you used to be able to just select an area within a closed boundary and it would create a wipeout to suit.

Now it seems it can only be used with lines. So by way of example, if i want to wipeout a circle or curved object then the only solution (i think anyhow) is a faceted line selected around the perimeter or boundary by clicking each node or point so not as you would with a hatch when you select within a boundary.

Perhaps a hatch exists to achieve the same 'masking' effect just with improved functionality?

WIPEOUT command never did circular shapes in any year-version or variant of AutoCAD/LT: Just make a polygon with a large number of sides... Then choose Wipeout and select the new circle-like polygon. This is a much more simple approach.

Same for arcs.

Hatching is a popular alternative since it is most flexible.

I must be confusing it with another CAD system I worked with recently then - perhaps a suggestion for an update on wipeout functionality then LOL
I'll investigate hatch to see if that is a workaround then but thanks for your input.
