Don't put the " at the end

eg just type 24'-0

When using the offset command, I want to offset a line 24'-0". When I type in 24'-0", it then asks me to use a numeric distance?? If I simply type in 24, the line only offsets 2'-0" What am I doing wrong? Why is it all in inches?

At the command line type UNITS. Change the TYPE from DECIMAL to ARCHITECTURAL.

Now it will work

This is what's going on my end: I hit the offset command, the window reads "specify offset distance or" beside that is a little box in blue with the word "through". I type in 24'-0 then click in the line I want to offset. The window then reads "requires numeric distance, two points, or option keyword. Specify offset distance or" the little blue box with "through" is still there. when I try to offset the line, the line just sticks to the cursor and won't jump to 24'.......... what am I doing wrong?
