I do that but it make no difference. I even tried opening a new layer and transferring all the dims to that, but new dims still appeared on the wrong layer. It only happens on one drawing. If I put in dims and then change them to the the correct layer using 'match layer' that works but I need to freeze the layer they initially appear on to dimension other parts of the drawing and I cant do both.
Rik Graham
60 Harwich Rd MistleyEssexCO11 1LL
0777932196401206396790

Are the new dimensions going to the same layer regardless of the current layer?

Have you checked the value of DIMLAYER as indicated in the first response?

OP here's a possibility, and it does pertain to the DIMLAYER system variable. Go to your Annotate panel on the Ribbon, under Dimensions. In the middle of that you may see what looks like a layer pulldown with the flooring layer checkmarked. If so, then all you should need to do is expand the pulldown and either select "use current layer", or select the layer you'd like the dimensions to come in on.

Also, that setting is on a per-drawing basis, which explains why it doesn't occur on the other drawings.
