AutoCAD LT snaps to points in the Z-axis. I know in the full version of AutoCAD there is a command that would force all your lines to snap with z-axis = 0. I thought I could live with using apparent intersection but it is still a bit annoying that my lines snap to where ever they want in the z-coordinate. Does anyone have a solution for keeping all your lines at z=0 in AutoCAD LT? I have no idea why this is happening.

No, you have coordinate filter .xy for example, but no osnapz or other solutions.

You know about the MOVE trick? Thats only to fix existing objects, but it's not perfect.

Hi there, Kate. I just wanted to check if Dean's (@pendean) screencast was helpful? If yes, it would be fantastic if you could just mark this solution as accepted and so help other users find the solution. If not, don't hesitate to come back and tell us, we've got an amazing group of experts here to help. Mark.

>"So the answer is that there really is no good way to deal with this? "

Yes, except to set all to Z=0, so each point the osnap can snap is z=0..

>"You have to change everything manually? "

No, thats what i ask before: Do you know about the MOVE (to 1e99) Trick?

Search for it.. but handle with care in case of drawing objects from other sources.

>"Even after I change everything through the properties, it still snaps randomly in the Z-axis."

No, if there is nothing with Z/=0, Autocad can not snap to a point with z/=0.

>"osnap"

So far i can remember it was never part of LT, but i also don't understand why - stupid limitation specially for LT.

Please post a dwg where lines are snapping randomly to a z height (showing the lines you have drawn). Lt cannot just decide to use a random Z value (unless of course, you have a faulty installation). And the only real way to remove Z heights is by changing the values for individual groups of similar objects shown in the screencast pendean linked too, unless of course you have specific 3D objects such as solids and surfaces. If you are using LT to work with drawings that contain 3D data then you have to live with the consequences of that, or upgrade to full Autocad so you have the tools that go with 3D. Or post a copy of the dwg file so we can see exactly what is going on in your file.

There are more or less ways to flaten a drawing so you don't have to worry about Z.

But if I can give a trick it would be this one :

Start a polyline (instead of a line) and begin with ".z" followed by "0,0,0" (or any click in a free zone or on a osnaped point that you know to be at z=0) before entering the starting point.

Polylines are always on a xy plane. They can be exploded after.

Trim and extend are both affected by 3D content and the UCS setting. Make sure your UCS is set to world and that you are also viewing the drawing from the 'top' direction. If you are unsure about that, then please do post your dwg file so we can check what might be causing the issues. One other problem could possibly be the distance that your objects are away from the origin, sometimes Autocad can have issues when it has to work with extreme distances in a file.

Impossible.

The only solution is to allow for 0SNAPZ, can't wait for this project to end so I can trash Autodesk once and for all.
