Thank you! I dimensioned it in model and it worked just fine. I have heard a few different ideas on model/layout dimensioning and this definitely is a case where it caused problems. I put a sample drawing in my last reply, but seems to be fine so I will work with this awhile and see how it goes. Thanks so much!! Appreciate it!

I just upgraded to AutoCad LT 2020 from LT 2009 so there have been some challenges learning this new system. Worked perfectly on old LT.

I am having trouble to get dimensions aligned when using baseline dimensioning.

First, dimensions are all squished together.

Second, every additional dimension I add raises the first dimension as well as all the others instead of starting where I placed the first dimension.

Third, the dimensions are going below my original dimension.

I'm sure this is super simple to fix but I have spent quite a bit of time on it and am not having any luck. Thanks so much for your help!!

HI

First, dimensions are all squished together.

Change Baseline spacing (see pic)

Second, every additional dimension I add raises the first dimension as well as all the others instead of starting where I placed the first dimension.

(some how its impossible, maybe you are using "continue" instant of base line (please upload your drawing)

Third, the dimensions are going below my original dimension.

everything depends to first dim and the point you pick for new baseline, lets say like this

you have one horizontal dimension (A) ,if you pick a point which is upper than (A) ,your baseline dim will go below (A), if your pick point is lower than (A) it will go above (A)

see attached one Dwg file with setting to compere with yours

So do you always dimension in model without creating a layout?

I added more lines to your drawing and tried to continue baseline dimensioning and this is what it did. I clicked on the first dimension in the string and went from there to the next unmeasured line.

I did not use continue, I selected baseline.

HI

yes we do dim in model space always .

as you know the high of font, and base line spacing , hatch density ,..... depends to your scale , and you need to be adjust based on your layout scale

i sent for you as a sample,

if you like ,you can upload your drawing with layout, and page setup, then we can help you about base line spacing

,and maybe find out what is wrong with your drawing.

good luck

Thank you for that. I see baseline dimensioning in model works. Now, when I go to layout and put it in a 1/2" scale viewport, then go to model and add the 1/2" scale, all the dimensions get messed up. So do I have to readjust everything? This seems very inefficient, so there must be a better way. Thanks for your help!
