In the new AutoCAD 2021 how do I insert a dxf block? The only choices I have in file type are dwg and dwt.

Thank you

Two options come to mind.

1. CLASSICINSERT command, select the Browse button to select a file. You can set the "Files of Type" to DXF.

2. Drag and drop the DXF file into your drawing editor. Use properties to place more precisely.

Why did Autodesk make this unnecessarily more complicated? Many companies provide CAD of their parts and equipment in DXF format... to bury the function in this way such that it is separate from dwg blocks is just dumb.

Lack of experience or knowledge is more accurate, it happens to all of us learning new programs or unfamiliar processes. The good news is now you know how to solve it and you will never forget it.

I've been using CAD for years, thanks. Office just went from one of the
last actually ownable versions to 2022 and yes, the function has been
buried in the last few years. The standard block insertion function
traditionally had the insert-able file types in one place (except pdfs).
Now you need multiple commands to get the same functionality. Certainly,
I'm going to learn the commands necessary, since I have to work... but I
don't consider it an improvement.

>>>...I've been using CAD for years...<<<

@steveMAC7C As have all of us end users who help others like you in these forums.

It is indeed unfortunate they opted to rename the command from INSERT to CLASSICINSERT instead of giving the new functionality a unique name, but a quick review of "what's new" in HELP in 2022 by you or your Cad Manager (to give everyone a heads up on the changes) appears to have been a missed opportunity.

Here is where to find that in HELP in 2022, explore as needed, this is a tool of your trade after all, no need to be surprised by much anymore
