Hi, Why do my drawings keep scrambling when being copied and pasted!

I have found that purging, then regenerating allows me to then paste a separate drawing into the current dwg.

However, this is only allowed once! On following trials the pasted drawing gets scrambled and unworkable.

Does anyone know how to solve this??
Please Help...

AutoCAD LT 2021: Windows 10

Hi @ethanRB8PA,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I am sorry to hear this is happening. It would be difficult to give a specific reason without seeing the file, but from the screen shots you provided it looks like there is either content in the drawing that AutoCAD LT does not recognize (for example: from one of the AutoCAD toolsets or a third party application) or possibly file corruption.

See the following for more information on How to repair corrupt AutoCAD files.

Can you provide the files and more information to help us understand in what way it is getting scrambled?

If a post answered your question or resolved the issue, please click the Accept Solution button.

Likes are always welcome.

All the best,

The problem is the block names. You have the same block names in both drawings and qhen you paste a block into a drawing it uses the block definition that is already existing in the drawing.

You'd need to remove all instances of the old block, purge the dwg (look in the list to see it's purging the old block name), then you can re-insert the (copy & paste even) the block again, or rather your updated version of the same block.

Unfortunately no simple way. I only looked at one block 'scale22' which is the most visible. The problem is it is used in both drawings and it has a different visual appearance in both versions. So your only option in cases like that is to rename one of the blocks before you copy and paste it. It really is down to just careful naming conventions for your blocks. If you use similar names every time then eventually you end up with situations where two different blocks, unfortunately, end up with the same name, and the problem only shows up in situations like this. WHich in a worst-case scenario could actually go unnoticed but show the wrong information.

L T doesn't have any tools to deal with this problem it is just a case of good housekeeping.
