AutoCAD Lagging

I’m using AutoCAD Lt 2025 and I lease the software. With every command, when I select something it takes 3 to 5 seconds to select or pick. This happens with a new file with just a few lines and a large set of plans. It really slows me down. I do not believe it has anything to do with existing files vs new files. They both do it.

I’ve checked everything for updates and it’s all good. It didn’t seem to be as bad when I bought the laptop about 21/2 years ago. I probably used release 2021. (not sure if that matters)

I use (2) 27” (1920 x 1080 ) external monitors along with the Laptop monitor. I’m including my specs and AutoCAD ‘s requirements below. I’ve read some posts from other people, and they were apparently able to fix the problem but I haven’t.

Could be your graphics card....I didn't see on your OP what graphics driver you're using on your laptop. Check this site to see if your graphics card is certified and then download the driver.

If your graphics card is not listed, in AutoCAD enter at the command line:

GFXDX12

and set that to 0

Then close & restart AutoCAD and see if that makes a difference.

If not at the command line enter GraphicsConfig and set 2D Display Settings to another option and see if that helps.

I DID THIS SUGGESTION

Seems faster but I will let you know later in the day as it gets slower after a while.

unplug your 2 external monitors and just use the laptop screen..any difference?

keep your laptop plugged in to the power adapter...any difference?

Hi Paul,

There is a difference. There's still a little lag, but it's better.

What does this mean? My computer can't really handle the other monitors? Is there a workaround? If it's the graphics card, can they be replaced? (This is a laptop)

Well, what kind of device are you using to make it possible for your laptop to plug in two more external monitors?

The bottleneck could be there.

Nice to know the specs but that still doesn't tell me how you're connecting two external monitors to it.

Are you using a USB or HDMI extender?

I misread your message...I have the 2 monitors directly plugged in, one with a hdmi and the other is a display port

Perhaps it’s time to invest in a new laptop with more powerful graphics capabilities that would better support two additional external screens

It helps if your two external monitors are 100% identical in every aspect.

Does your laptop have a powered USB-C port? Then all you need is a gadget like this to run two monitors with, if you still have issues, you need a new laptop (see your issue with docking stations)

My laptop has a USB-C port but I'm not sure if it's powered. Is there a way to tell? I had a powered docking station which just stopped working.

I probably didn't have as much lagging then, but I had different monitors. Now I have 2 new identical monitors. Maybe I should try the docking station again? The laptop is no more than 3 year sold.
