Hey guys, brand new to Autocad LT and have a beginner question. I am making a drawing and after doing some researches online I cannot figure out how I can set two objects a specific distance apart. All I come across are articles and videos on how to set dimensions to show how far apart these things are but not how to edit the dimensions to make them a specific distance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thank,

Fletcher.

Use the FROM command. First select the object you want to move. Select the base point. Then either right click, move to snap overrides and choose FROM or SHIFT+Right Click and choose FROM. Then choose a point on the object you want it near and type in the distance (don't forget to either have polar or orthogonal snaps on) otherwise you might not be perfectly perpendicular to the line. See the two images below and the link as well

It looks like your trying to make the cut out central to the main object. In that case you need to use MOVE and TEMPORARY TRACK POINT (On the same right click menu). You first need to choose the point on the cutout you need to align with the main object. Then choose TEMPORARY TRACK POINT. Now choose the point you want to align on the main object. You will see a dotted line, which will help. See the link and image below
