Random line showing up in layout but not in the model space

Hi everyone,

I am having an issue and have no idea how to fix it. I have never experienced this before. I have a drawing and when I get my template all situated in the layout, a random line keeps appearing. I go to the model space to erase this line but it does not exist in the model space (or at least I don't think it does?) I click in the layout area to see if I can delete the line in the layout space but it seems as though the line is not being added in the layout space, even though that is the only space it appears. So I have no idea where this line is coming from. I even copy and pasted my drawing to a new area in the model space and then do the layout stuff and the line is not there at first, but then after messing with the scales on some other dashed lines, this random line starts showing up and it's incredibly frustrating. Anyone know what I am talking about and how to fix it?

Questions;

1. What AutoCAD version are you running?

2. Do you have the latest updates installed on that version?

3. Does this happen only on this particular drawing or on other dwgs also?

4. If only on this one dwg, have you tried running the Audit command on it?

5. Can you share this dwg here and show screenshots as to where you see this line?

6. Can you also share the following screenshots:

a) About command window

b) GraphicsConfig command window

Here are the answers to your questions.

1) AutoCAD LT 2024

2) Latest updates have been installed

3) This is only happening on this particular drawing

4) I did the audit command and it detects zero errors

5) DWG and screenshots are attached to this message. The red arrow points to the random line in the layout space. Compare it to the model space where that random line does not exist.

6) I can only have 3 attachments per message so I will send these in another message.

Looks like it's a Linetype & ltscale issue. Once I selected that PLINE and changed the Linetype from Bylayer (which is assigned to Tracks) and changed it to Continous the line disappeared:

FYI, if you do want the train track linetype to show in the vport, since your PSLTSCALE is set to 1 just set LTSCALE to 1 as well:

@paullimapaOkay, gotcha. If I set the LTSCALE to 1, would that make the line scales the same between the model space and the layout space? That is something I have always been confused about. Whenever I have a dashed line, I always have to adjust the scale on the model space for the dashes to finally show up on the layout space. Once the dashes start showing up in the layout space, it starts showing up as a continuous line on the model space.

There's one more setting that you'll need after setting LTSCALE = 1 & PSLTSCALE = 1 and that is to also set MSLTSCALE = 1.

Now in Layout tab, your Vport scales will cause your Linetypes to look correct in Mspace because of LTSCALE = 1 & PSLTSCALE = 1.

In Model tab if you change the Annotation scale list to match with the scale you've setup to plot in your Layout (in this case it's 1"=100') then the Linetypes will also show up after a REGEN to match because MSLTSCALE = 1.
