Creating a 12x4 1/2 running bond hatch pattern

I need to create a custom hatch pattern much like

*AR-B816, 8x16 Block elevation stretcher bond
0, 0,0, 0,8
90, 0,0, 8,8, 8,-8

My pattern needs to be 12" wide x 4" high & the vertical line on the second row will be halfway between the 2 vertical lines on the first row. Its basically like a brick pattern. i believe that's called a running bond pattern. Normally a brick pattern is 8" wide x 2-1/4" or something. i need it to be 12x4. i used to have something that explains all the steps such as what line is the angle, etc. Can anyone walk me through this? it should be a simple pattern but i cant remember the syntax i need to put in.

Your "something that explains" is >here<. What you want to do is fairly basic, so you should be able to understand what to change. If you have trouble, write back....

One thing I would point out, that can be misleading: The two numbers after the angle number, for the origin for that lineset, are X and Y distances in relation to zero-degree orientation, not in relation to the specified angle for the lineset. But after that, it does shift to defining things in relation to the specified angle, for the X & Y offset numbers.

So the first line in AR-B816 is telling me that the angle is 0, the origin is 0,0 then the pen picks up goes up 0,8 then draws a line.

The second line says the angle is 90, the origin is still 0,0 then the pen picks up and then goes 8,8 from the origin in the x direction relative to the 90 degrees angle. The pen then picks up an goes 8,-8 in the y direction relative to the 90 degrees angle. Is that it?

i thought it was

0, 0,0, 0,4
90, 0,0, 4,6, 4,-6

but i that's not it. i attached an image

The first line in AR-B816 specifies angle=0, origin=(0,0), repeated with X-offset=0, Y offset=8, pen initially down resulting in a set of horizontal unbroken lines spaced 8 apart.

The second line specifies angle=90, origin=(0,0), repeated with X-offset=8, Y offset=8 with pen initially down 8 then up 8 creating a set of broken vertical lines. Important to note that while angle and origin are in global coordinates, offsets are relative to line origin and line DIRECTION so a set of 8 long broken lines based at the origin is firstly (-16,16), (-8,8), (0,0), (8,-8), (16,-16) ... with similar adjacent sets then drawn through (8,8) ... and (-8,-8) ... to complete the pattern.

Your pattern could be:

*AR-B412, 4x12 Block elevation stretcher bond
0, 0, 0, 0, 4
90, 0, 0, 4, 6, 4, -4

1st pattern line is horizontal, unbroken, spaced at y-offset 4 (X-offset is inline so has no visible effect).

2nd is broken, vertical, draw 4, skip 4, with offset in line direction 4, normal to line direction 6.

As Kent indicated, understanding how the offsets rotate WITH the line direction is key.

This may help you understand the different elements. The pattern definition at upper left has parts in different colors, which correspond to the colors of the Dimensions in the Hatch.
