AutoCAD 2020 "insert block from another drawing" make it impossibly slow

In AutoCAD 2020 when I need to insert block, after hitting "from another drawing" I have to wait several minutes while it opens the block window. After that my autocad becomes extremely slow! All my colleges complain about the same issue. I try to avoid this button at all cost, but when I need it, I just know that it will either die or freeze forever. So, whenever I perform this command, I have to restart AutoCAD and, sometimes, computer.

Please fix this! It effects my work. It wasn't an issue with earlier versions.

Does this happen when inserting any block for any file? Or does it only happen when trying to insert that particular block?

I would recover the file the block is in (use the RECOVER command like you would use the OPEN command, AutoCAD will try to repair any issues with the file as it's being open).

Once open, Purge the file. Then save it.

Try inserting the block and see what you get. We can go from there.

Also, if you feel comfortable doing so, post both files so we can have a look offline.

You do know INSERT command changed in 2020, right? If you like the older command from previous versions, start using CLASSICINSERT command instead.

Please ensure you also have the 2020.1.3 update installed: ABOUT command will confirm if you have it installed or not.

It happens with all files and all blocks, and not just on my computer.

I tried all steps, not much difference, unfortunately.

Apparently, my AutoCAD is 2020, the issue could've been fixed by now.

I couldn't find 2020.1.3 update, could you please help me with the link?

Something else to look into:

Are your company's blocks stored on a network location, or do you all have local copies?

If on a network, what happens if you open the file containing the block(s) and copy/paste into the file you are working in? This is just a test, not a suggestion for a solution, since it would really make things inconvenient. If that is also slow, you could have a network speed issue. Is anything else network-related slow? Opening/Saving, plotting, etc?

As @pendean suggested, try using classicinsert command, works much faster/better for me, maybe it will for you? The "previews" in the new command are nice, but that could be what is slowing you down, takes time to access and display that much information, especially if you have a large block library. I have all my blocks stored in my template file, on my local drive, works just fine the "old" way, but the "new" way was quite slow.

Blocks are stored on a network location, but I don't remember it to be a problem with earlier autocad version.

I tried copy/paste as you suggested - no issues. Opening/Saving, plotting etc. works fine.

classicinsert does work better, but not as good as it could be.

I'll contact our IT to install updates, hopefully it will help.

The never seen before R2020 INSERT command is probably the reason for your slowness, not much else.
And as noted, the new INSERT command never existed in older versions.

I replaced the insert button to classic one and installed 2020.1.3 update, it really helps!!!
