Hello. Can AutoCad open or import a TIN file. … or is there any other way to view it within Autocad?

Yes. A drawing like that. … our customer has sent us a file with TIN surfacing imported in the file. But we cannot view it. We only have the basic AutoCad.

I see from another post that it requires another program to view it.

The .TIN extension does not guarantee it's (usually) binary contents. I can think of at least 3 providers of .TIN files and they are all different. If your .TIN is accompanied by a .PNT file then it originated in Autodesk's former product Land Desktop and Civil3D mentioned by @pendean will import it. If this is a one time shot, zip and post your .TIN and someone may provide a .DWG file with a collection of 3dFaces, depending on the format of the .TIN file. If you have a .PNT file include it in the ZIP. We can read two of the three mentioned in our MapWorks add-on for plain AutoCAD.

They can help you if they export their .dwg as plain autocad.

It does nothing more than viewing in 3d in autocad and gives you a feel of the model, why do you need it?

Mostly, we need it for viewing the contour of the land around our system we will be installing.

I will ask to have them save it like you mentioned.

Look into downloading the Civil 3D object enabler. It allows you to view Civil 3D entities in generic AutoCAD. You can't modify them, but you can see them.

Hey. Sorry, I got busy and forgot to reply. Yes, this is what I ended up doing was getting them to save it as a 2d Auto Cad dwg file. And this worked great.
