topic Vertical dimension scaling problem in AutoCAD Forum

We have detail drawings that contain horizontal and vertical dimensions. They're drawn at full scale in model space and saved as individual drawings. We then insert them as blocks onto a sheet in paper space, scaling them down to 1/2", 1/4" scale ETC.

Here's the problem - all the vertical dimension text appears bolder than everything else when scaled down. Horizontal text is just fine. It seems that it's just a quirk of autocad that it does that. Is there a solution for this problem?

Hi,

Bringing the dimension out of the block does seem to solve the problem . See the snapshot with the dimension placed outside the block and you would find some difference between the two.

Here is similar thread which I found: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/arial-text-in-block-looks-bold-when-rotated-90/td-p/3438405

Hi,

>> Here's the problem - all the vertical dimension text appears bolder than everything else when scaled down.

That's right !! when you convert it to a block and start scaling you will start to see bold dim text . for that i suggest to treat your dimension at the real scale ( i mean without scale needed ) and then you can edit your dim text OR make a proper dimstyle for those used dimensions .

Does it plot/print heavier, also? And does it look heavier at any rotation other than 0°, or only at 90° specifically? By comparison, in my experience, .TTF fonts used at a width factor other than 1 also look bolder on-screen, but they don't plot bolder. Could this be a similar situation?
