Automatic numbering in text box.

I had a table of contents. organized perfectly. Then, i needed to add a page in the middle of my pages.

how do i update all of the page numbers after numbering the first page to what i desire?

see below: (i want this sequence to start with "30." then continue...31....32....33...34...etc.

There is nothing automatic in MTEXT to do that: start over.

i found the answer.

you need to number your first line,
exit the text box,
re-enter the text box,
select everything below/after your first line with given number,
right click
-bullets and lists
-continue

it works like a charm

Who knows why this has not been added as a feature to mtext as it would be nice regardless. Personally I use sheet set manager to generate my sheet index which put's it into a table and all the sheet numbering is done automatically. That said. There is a trick maybe, and it's certainly not direct, but what your asking can be done fairly easily. To explain in step by step instructions is not really easy for me so I'll give you a summary and a screencast. Hope this helps.

Summary:

Number your first line, then copyclip contents to notepad. change your "1." to a "31." copyclip and paste back into your mtext. Then use the continue numbering option to number the remaining lines.

Nice.. looks like you saved me a step. I use my method for changing specification notes, when I'm reorganizing large sections etc. Moving things around.

if the top line is a bullet or list, go to the end of the line, hit delete to bring the next line up and then hit enter and the mtext should continue the numbering based on the top line.

that is incorrect.

all instances trying this just led the next number to be "1"

my answer is correct
