That's not normal behavior and, without additional information, it's impossible to say how to fix it.

My guess is that the XREF file is somehow not compatible.

It would be helpful for you to share the problem child.

Even if the answer above is already marked as a solution [I guess it was a mistake, or?],
the following reason is more common and obvious:

You mean that not all objects appears, i guess: All Layers are there, but layers and objects are different things.

The option insert (instead of binding) was used and the layers in the target file are switched off or frozen.

@Anonymous

do you know the difference between both options in your bind process?

Sorry for the confusion.

I have a file which include two xrefs. Til now all three files have been placed in the same folder which allowed the xrefs to be visible, within the main drawing. Our company is in the process of transferring and linking all 2D drawings to a BIM program. So I am binding all xrefs which usually are architect floor plans, which have been used to draw on the technical installations (HVAC, electrical, etc).

The usual issue I've had was that, when I right click on the Xref and click bind, the entire drawing that was in the Xref disappeared.

I believe this is due to proxy objects and to fix this I have used the method recommended here. That is to open a new drawing, insert the problem xref, explode it, save and then link the xref path to this newly made drawing, and then bind.

This usually works, however in this instance when I tried to insert the problem xref into a new drawing, part of the drawing disappeared. So my question is, why is this problem xref not showing the entire drawing when inserted to a new drawing? and is there a way to fix this? I have thawed, unlocked all layers before inserting and this didn't help. I am able to open the problem xref and view the drawing and it shows the entire drawing.

- So my question is, why is this problem xref not showing the entire drawing when inserted to a new drawing?

Impossible to know without the files for checking it.

XRef-DWG, Main-DWG and your Main-DWG after your "Bind" process (saveas with another name like Main-result.dwg)

- and is there a way to fix this?

First we need to know what the problem is, then we can answer this question.

-I have thawed, unlocked all layers before inserting and this didn't help.

Nothing to do with the bind process.

- I am able to open the problem xref and view the drawing and it shows the entire drawing.

We are not able to open and checking the XRef-Dwg, change this, share your files and we will see.

--

But again: I am right that all layers imported, you just missing some objects, right?

What program will you be using the files in?

If the problem is the proxy objects and it probably is, then you need to convert them. Your method has a couple of flaws as you have found. Have the people generating the drawings EXPORT them for you. If that is too much trouble and the drawings were made with an AutoCAD vertical, you can do it yourself by downloading Drawing TrueView (free from Autodesk) and convert the drawings.

Share your files.. you asked, what was the answer?

Best way: Command ETRANSMIT

Standard setting

Share the ZIP file with all needed stuff.

-

Without sharing:

Are you able to bind this xref in a bew empty file?

Are the Proxy objects in that file?

Set proxynotice to 1 and open the xref file, appears a message about Proxys?

I haven't yet received an answer about sharing these files.

I tried inserting the drawing with the xrefs into a new drawing, reloaded the xref and still the error " Some objects in the specified Xref(s) failed to bind."

I chose the options " Show Proxy Graphics" and " Do not show proxy graphics". Both times the same error message as above.

Proxynotice was set to 1.

The following shows the Proxy info when I opened the problem Xref. If this is unreadable I have attached this as an attachment as well. Could it be because I don't have additional applications installed such as MagiCAD, etc? It is the piping that disappear when I try to bind.
