Dear Forum,

I have drawn some wooden slats as 2D rectangles, each one numbered, dimensioned (the lenght in the middle) and converted to a block:

Wooden slat, dimensioned, saved as a block

The number in the middle of the slat is a real dimension (I have suppressed the dimension lines, to see only the text), so If I edit the block modifying the lenght of the rectangle, the number inside it changes too.

Now I have to draw a table with all the lenghts of such these slats, listed one below the other, and I'd like to "link" the numbers inside the cells to the respective rectangles, in a way that whenever I adjusted one slats lenght, the number would change automatically also inside the cell:

Is it possible?

I have tried different ways, for example sub-blocking the dimension inside the rectangle and pasting a copy of it inside the cell, enlarged, but I missed: if I edit the slat and change the lenght, the number inside the table doesn't change.

Thank you for the support.

3 or 4 ways you can go, this is one of them:

For the number, use attributes (BEDIT, ATTDEF)

For the length, use a field in an attribute

Make the block variable, by using dynamic parameters&actions

Hi @Anonymous

Try creating a linear parameter inside the block similar to the dimension and then use the field in the cell to the value of the linear parameter which will be similar to that of the dimension.

Note that when you modify the dimension modify the linear parameter as well 🙂

Hi @michele.bartolettistella

Try to include a linear dimension similar to the dimension and then use the field in the cell to get the value of the linear parameter.

Note while modifying the dimension inside the block editor modify the linear parameter as well 🙂

I'd create a Dynamic Block and a Dataextraction table.

Thank you @cadffm, @vinodkl and @j.palmeL29YX for your suggestions. I wasn't familiar with Fields.

In particular, I think that vinodkl's method is exactly what I want, because the fileds inside the table will stay synchronized in real time, without the need to update the table manually (no need to click on "Update Fields" at every change).

My table is quite simple, so I think I can draw it simply as a column made of of rectangles (instead of using Insert Table).

And thank you for your screencasts! What a wonderful tool.
