Layout Viewport layer color overrides: match properties & overrides (in all viewports drawing).

Hi everyone,

My issue is this, I have a drawing with multiple layouts, and I want to make VP color overrides in some layers for all layouts.

The problem I have is that to make this, I need to enter the VP and manually make the color override, in my case for a true color, and repeat the process for every single layout, witch is very annoying.

I already tried to match between layouts from the same and different drawings but had no luck.

Why Autocad doesn't have the VP color option in the Model Layer Manager?

Am I missing something?

What I want is to be able to match or apply VP layer color/ properties overrides to all VP.
Is there any solution?

Why do I have the option to "REMOVE VP Layer Overrides for all..." but not the the opposite?

I already tried that solution, sorry forgot to tell, but anyway tried it again as you suggested and, if I didn't do anything wrong the import Layers state is only applied to the layout layers, not the layout Viewports Layers, and It's also applied to a single layout not all layouts.

Then you don't need VP Overrides. Remove them and assign the desired color.

Just to be clear, in model I have a Layer X with color A, and I want to keep that color in model.

I also want same Layer X to have a different color in Vp, and for that I use VP color override.

At this point I have a drawing with multiple layouts and around 80 Viewports without the color overrides.

What I want is to apply that color change but don't want to change the overrides on all Viewports 1 by 1.

It won't work with the further details that you've provided. Not sure why you would want the model space to be a different layer color than every viewport.

Long story short, in the model space I need to have a diferenet color for layer, that way is more simple to work and check if the element is in the correct layer, but in layout I want a single color to be printed.

That can only be done as a VPCOLOR layer setting inside viewports in Layouts if you only wish to use core commands and functions.

Yes, I've been there, either I'm not that good finding a solution for this one or it doesn't exist at all.

Knowing my track record I tend consider the last one, but we should never give up. 😄

Why not just post there and ask for help creating a LISP?

You'll want to share your DWG file with many layouts/viewports and explain what how you want the layer name to be chosen.

You must be active within a particular VP, so it's applied there. I do this all the time, so I know it works.

Save and apply layer state is the way to go!

Yes I do know that and that's exactly what I want to avoid.

It works, but only with one VP at time, all solutions lack the option to make it in bulk, for all VP drawing.

If I already have to many VP mounted, I don't want to go one by one to apply de VP color overrides, I want override all the others at once.

Autocad already has the opposite option, "REMOVE VP OVERRIDES FOR ALL/ FOR ONE..." why only remove and not also APPLY.

That's my goal to apply the colors overrides.

It's just the nature of overrides. As has been stated, what you want is not possible without code. Earlier you mentioned that you need this in order the check layer assignments. Without working code, I would explore other workflows so that you can accomplish that review and make make plans for future projects. I suggest Layer Walk, LAYWALK, for your review and moving forward setting up your viewports as you make them in the future so that you can have your overrides in place without having to assign them after the fact.

Yes I did predicted that because I prepared the base drawings with the overrides for someone else, in the future, multiply/ copy the layouts with thoses OV but this time the process went "side ways".
But yes, I think the solution is on a lisp.

You're trying to do it the hard way! All you need to do is select the Display Plot Styles option in the Page Setup dialog box of each layout. https://help.autodesk.com/view/ACD/2024/ENU/?guid=GUID-A5783CCA-CAC8-4C0E-AF8A-928ADA4613A2

Sorry but either I miss something or you solution doesn't work.

If I have multiple layers A (in red) and multiple layers B (also in red), all of them will plot in blue with your suggestion that is color base at pen assignment page setup.

That solution will override the color to all layers in red I don't want that.

I want to set that color override for some specific layers, those layers have the original color (red blue, yellow what ever in model) but in viewport they plot in blue.

Autocad has the option to remove that override to all viewports but not the "apply" to all viewports.

What I posted doesn't modify any layer or object colors at all. You asked for a solution to view layouts displaying in the colors they would be when plotted and both the Autodesk link and the code I posted simply display the layouts including viewports using the assigned Plot Styles exactly how they would be plotted like you wanted. Of course you need to have a Plot Style assigned to the layout for it to work.

I'm sorry but as I mentioned in my first post, what I want is to change some layers, if it is for viewing or plotting either way the plot styles won't work because I don't want to change/view/plot all layers (color red in model) to blue when viewport/ plotted to pdf/ dwf whatever.
