[Answering @Anonymous]

I tried recovering the file, but AutoCAD crashed again. Once it crashes, I can't click anywhere nor open the window once I leave it. Like, I can switch to other pages but can't come back on it.

[Answering @pendean]

I transfered the files using an external hard drive. Copy/Pasted all of the files from the old to the new laptop, took the time to eject the hard drive before unplugging it.

I tried to open the files in the two ways I know : directly by clicking them and from AutoCAD.

I'd like to use the command but I don't know where to write it. Since I can't open the file, I don't have access to the commandline (if we are talking about the one that is always on the bottom of the screen).

PS : My apologies if my vocabulary is inaccurate, I'm french eh

I freshly installed AutoCAD 2021 on my new laptop and it fails to open files I transfered from my old laptop.

It doesn't give me any error message or anything, the software just freezes and fail to open it. I tried to use TrueView to save an older version of the file but it can't process it either.

My laptop is plenty powerful enough to process those tasks, so it's not an hardware failure.

Something weird is that I still can get the previews of the files that won't open, and while some do not open, others do.

Maybe something in the files got broken in the transfer process...try using "recover" instead of "open"

see >link<

Hope this helps.

How did you "transfer" these files exactly?
How are you opening the files? From inside 2021, start OPEN command then what happens? The commandline (if taller than the default single line) will tell you what the problem is.

For RECOVER and OPEN commands, click on the big Red A in the top left corner of the AutoCAD program.

If those do not help, you have all of this to do on your new laptop https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Recommended-uninstall-and-reinstall-procedures.html

Good luck.

Both OPEN and RECOVER lead to a crash. Am I in trouble ?

So, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling AutoCAD 2021 and I still have the same issue. I checked for updates on the AutoDESK application and there was one, so I downloaded it but I still have the same problem.

During the installations, I tried opening the "corrupted" files on my old laptop and found out they could be opened on AutoCAD 2020 (2020 and not 2021). So, before undergoing all the procedures you gave me, do you think I should consider saving my files on an even older version of AutoCAD (like, 2014 maybe) and try to open them with AutoCAD 2021 ? Maybe the issue comes from the imcompatibility of those versions of AutoCAD ?

Also, those trouble making files are pretty old since I first created them on a 2018 or 2019 version of AutoCAD.

Try the link I provided last with suggested things to change/reset first, see if those help.

You can always post your DWG files here, most of us have AutoCAD 2021-2020-2019-2018 to try them too.
