There is action necessary to make your files compatible with newer versions. You will get a warning saying that saving the file to the current format might make the drawing incompatible with older versions

I am currently using a dinosaur system and need to upgrade, but need to sort how to do it correctly. I am using Autocad 2008 (mostly for 2D plans), with Microsoft Windows 7 version, on a 64 GB C: Drive that also needs upgrading. (Graphics card is fine at the moment) As you all probably know Autocad 2008 is not compatible with Windows 10, and upgrading my C: Drive cannot really happen without Windows 10 (or so I’m told). This leaves me with the problem of upgrading computer but potentially unable to access all Autocad files. So I have several issues/questions:

1. Can I save or export 2008 .dwg files in a ‘special’ way so that it is easier to then import/open in Cad 2020. This is my goal, however if there are stepping stones to achieve this please let me know! Is this even possible?

2. My current 64GB C drive won’t allow me to download any huge new programs to do this so I am hoping there is something with low requirements to help make this happen- prefer to use something in Autocad program.

3. If issue above is solvable, is there a ‘special’ way to then import into Autocad 2020, after C: is upgraded to (256 or 512) and Windows 10 is installed?

Thank you in advance for any answers!

There's no need to convert drawings. You can always open older-version drawings in newer-version AutoCAD. They will be converted to the newer format when you Save them.
