Helo, i have a problem cause i am new to autocad. I am doing aome drawing in a program named tekla, then i export the drawing to autocad. In the autocad i have lets say a 1/50 detail and a 1/5 detail with no dimensions. Is there a way to lock a dimension style in the detail with 1/50 scale that when i measure it it gives me the correct dimension and to lock a dimension style in the 1/5 detail that when i measure it it gives me the correct dimension too? My cad is 1/1 scale, i have 1/50 detail that i want to lock a dimension style with a scale that multiples for 50 to give me the correct dimension, but i want to assign another style to the 1/5 detail with a scale that multiplies for 5 to give me the correct dimension when i measure it. My english is not that good i hope i expressed in a way people know what is my doubt. Thanks, please help i am kinda desperate.

Make your Dimension Styles for each case, and in the Style manager:

By having two Dimension Styles defined, with different numbers in that scale-factor value.

@Anonymous wrote:

...

My cad is 1/1 scale,

...

I have seen people working on drawing in many ways.

IMO you have a good start.

Here is my suggestion.

1. Setup your drawing templates (.dwt format. you can learn by looking into HELP) and always use them when starting new drawings.

2. Always drawing everything 1:1 scale in model space then set your desire scale with view ports on layout.

3. Create dimstyles for various scales (also have a look in HELP for creating dimstyle).

4. Drawing everything in model space.

5. Also pay attention to linetype scale and text size when setting up drawing scale.

BTW There are explanations of commands and system variables relayed to the following topics in HELP

a. Viewport

b. Dimstyle, and

3. Linetype scale

HTH

You REALLY need to look into "Annotative" dimensions and text.

With this feature, the same dimension can be put in Model Space, and viewed in Paper Space at different scales.
Each version of the same object can then be moved to different places, to fit where you choose in each separate viewport.

No need for separate Dimension Styles, or separate Layers, etc!
One can even make hatches annotative, so they only show up in closer up views, and don't become a black blob when viewed zoomed out.

I know learning a program with so many features is very difficult, but better to learn to use them early, rather than have to unlearn things that will ultimately slow you down.
