Do you understand that by changing the trim mode system variable mentioned above, you do not need to worry about changing your habits?

The notion that "if something isn't broken then don't fix it" doesn't seem to apply at Autodesk. I actually just screamed at my computer screen for the first time in my life as a result of the bizarre "improvements" made to the trim and extend commands. How anyone anywhere could possible consider the changes to be improvements is completely beyond me. Please, maybe I'm having a bad day but if you are delighted with the changes and you cant understand how anyone could possibly consider them to be unhelpful, don't get in touch.

As far as I'm concerned, two of my most frequently used commands have been sabotaged by someone at Autodesk for reasons that defeat me.

Software evolves. A reality. Do yourself a huge favor starting today: when you move to a newer version of AutoCAD (or anything else), spend 10-15 minutes reading the "what's new" section to find out, if you need it, to put things back. AutoCAD is a tool of your trade, stay ahead of the competition (like me) before they steal your clients.

In your case look up TRIMEXTENDMODE (System Variable) in HELP in your new software before you do the above.

HTH

Thanks for the life lessons which I really didn't request. I didn't just dive in. I went straight to "what's new" and I also spent some time familiarising myself with the changes on other forums however, old neural paths die hard (a reality) and procedures that have become ingrained through repeated use don't just change because someone in a software design studio decides its time to fix something that isn't broken. That's a very competitive, passive aggressive comment you made relating to your world view on competition. I don't expect any of my clients to go elsewhere as a result of me being annoyed at changes in the trim command but thanks for the sage advice.

If all you want to do is vent, you can do so here to Autodesk https://www.autodesk.com/company/contact-us/product-feedback

If you are here for guidance on navigating the software, then welcome.

Yes, these forums are totally weird to use: I agree.

We all learn new things in AutoCAD all the time, there is nothing special about us vs you: learning new things and knowing when and how to put back old things is something you just have to do, or stop upgrading or find a CAD software that remains static for the next few dozen years.

I've been using AutoCAD since 1989 so if you want to discuss old habits an old ways of doing things, I will gladly take it offline then we can reminisce about those days and times and how fast AutoCAD used to be in DOS3.3 on those Intel286 machines. We can even discuss how these forums were amazing to use back in the newsgroups days 😉

And yes, I will steal your clients from you any chance I get: that's the reality of being in business. Send me your client list through a PM, I'll show you how it is done 😉

Enjoy Boss.
