The only thing that makes me nervous about OVERKILL is it may delete a line that is actually supposed to be on top of another line. The project we are dealing with asks for polylines and then closed lines wrapping around those polylines.

Ignore the arrows, but this is the kind of scenario we run into frequently.

Or say a closed line for a cabinet up again a wall and then a closed line for a countertop, and the lines against the wall are the same length, just different layers. Would overkill delete one of those lines? There are red lines underneath the cyan lines.

This is why I was wondering if there was any way to identify overlapping lines before deleting it. I am ok with overkill deleting all those little 0 length lines that sometimes appear.

Is there a way to identify duplicate linework? I need to know where the duplicate line work is? I have very specific ways I need to draw the entities so there are going to be be some duplicate linework, but I want to check it before I delete it.

Like using OVERKILL command (usage explained in HELP)?
or something else, like homework assignment checking for copy/paste issues?

Hi @kzD1219,

Good question. The most efficient way to remove duplicate geometry is with the OVERKILL command. You can make adjustments to the tolerances and specifics of what are removed, but there is not a way to examine it first.

You can also use the PROPERTIES palette to show the number of objects when you select a line or object with using a crossing selection box, before deleting the unwanted objects.

If a post answered your question or resolved the issue, please click the Accept Solution button.

Likes are always welcome.

All the best,

There is nothing in between OVERKILL and you manually doing what you have done really, it becomes too custom a solution for a generic tool.

Why don't you test it and find out? SAVEAS to create a dummy test file to eave your original intact.

Is there a way to identify duplicate linework?

Perhaps. Does your AutoCAD license include the so called "toolsets"? If so, download and install AutoCAD Map, load your drawing, then run the command MAPCLEAN. When you get to the "Cleanup Actions" part, be sure to click on "Interactive mode".

Duplicate lines would have exactly the same attributes?

Lines on different layers in the same space are not duplicates? layers are attributes of the line?

Can you post an example?
