Visible on the dwg.icon 3D objects are missing when the file is opened

Hi,

Autocad suddenly crashed and I have lost like 90% of my work. BAK. files do not help. When I look at the dwg. file icon in Windows I can clearly see that the files are there, but when I open it almost everything is missing.

Any idea what is going on?

Can you upload the DWG file and BAK files? What type of 3D objects and which Autodesk product are you working with.

Just because windows shows a preview of your model, that doesn't mean that is currently what is in the DWG file itself. The preview could've been a snip from a different save. We use the Plant3D product and often have to recover files due to corruption. I understand because I often see a preview of our 3D model with all objects, but when I open the file, I am truly missing piping and fittings.

Hi,

The preview (icon) does not show geometry, it's just a small image created during the last real save.

Especially when AutoCAD crashed the icon was not synchronized with the last content.

Best you can do is to look for the autosave-file (*.SV$), rename it to *.dwg and open that file.

I checked the BAK and SV $ files and didn't find most of my work. Anyway, everything is redrawn now.
