How do I trim a 2d where it cuts into a 3d model?

If I have a 3d model (say a cube) and a 2d line is passing through it, how do I trim the 2d line where it enters the 3d cube?

How do I extend a 2d line onto the face of a 3d model

If I have a 3d model (say a cube) and a 2d line pointing towards one of the faces, how can I extend the 2d line touch the face?

I'd draw a construction line and then trim to that then delete the construction line

Draw a line from any cube side line perp to the 2d line that is through the cube , trim as need , erase the perp line

If the 3D solid is more complex than a cube you could:

Make a copy of the solid.
Draw a small circle
Sweep the circle along the line creating a cylinder.
Subtract one of the two solids from the cylinder.
Move the end of the line to the end of the truncated end of the cylinder.

The method demonstrated in the link @SEANT61 posted used imprint. Using that technique, start the imprint command, select the cube, then select the line. Then use the break command, select the line, enter "F" for first point, and then use osnap to select the 1 or 2 points or the line created by the imprint command depending on how the original line and cube are related.
