Need to eliminate vertex in Autocad 2000

I've splined and joined the curves so it appears to be one smooth curved Pline but when you zoom in and select a line you can see that there are still vertexs (even after spline & join commands). My machinist needs me to eliminate or a least significantly reduce the number of vertex. Autocad 2000 makes straight lines, circles and arcs without vertex problems - but the variable curves drawn with multiple picks are the problem. See image below. The purple areas are OK but the white areas have way too many vertex. How do I get rid of them in AutoCad 2000 (or must I use a newer version?)

I tried the PLD lisp but the file size did not change. Nor did the number of (blue) pick points change. See image below. The circles that Autocad makes only have a few (blue) pick points when you select it. But the curved line I drew with pick points and splined/joined has many more (blue) pick points showing when selected. How do I reduce the number of these pick points? (they show up as vertex for my machinist and make his machine start and stop even though they show as joined in autocad 2000.

As the author of the PLD command, I have to ask: Are you using it on LWPolylines? [Not Splines, not "heavy" Polylines.] What options did you use? Are the shapes made of lots of arc segments, and did you choose to preserve those, which would mean nothing gets eliminated? Can you post a drawing file to try it on? And if you got the routine from @pendean's link, that's a considerably older version -- I attach the latest, which may not make a difference to whatever your problem is, but it's worth a try.

But you must realize that removing vertices will make your shapes "kinkier." The frequency of vertices is what allows the shape to be defined with whatever degree of smoothness it has, so if you lose vertices, you lose smoothness of the approximations of curvature.

To help others with a similar problem it would be nice to tell us here, how you did it.

Fortunately a member of this forum stepped up and fixed my drawing for me. He's not offering free services so I'm not pointing him out. I'm very gratefull and will be sending him a little present (one of my jazz CDs).
