Hi,

I have two drawings, A & B.
If I draw something in drawing A and then copy the object and paste it in drawing B, the object becomes bigger in drawing B.

For example, I have drawn a square of side 100 units in dwg A. Now I copy this square and paste it in dwg B. It becomes bigger with side 1200 units. (drawings are attached herewith).

I can not figure out which variables are responsible for this.

Any clue in this regard would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

What technique are you using to copy between drawings?

I was expecting this entry in the UNITS dialog box:

to be set at inches in one drawing and feet in the other, but as posted it's Unitless in both. And when I did it by Ctr+C in drawing A and Ctrl+V in drawing B, it was the same 100 unit square in drawing B.

No issues with your drawings here using copy/paste: was there something else I might have missed other than in B you are zoomed in too close to actually see the square from A so it just looks huge (but it is not)?

Thank you all for your response. I am using AutoCAD 2019 which came as part of my Civil3D 2019 software. I thought this AutoCAD is same as vanilla AutoCAD.

But it seems both are not the same. As @Kent1Cooper and @pendean are not getting this issue ( I think they are using vanilla AutoCAD) where as I am getting the scaling issue.

I found the solution in the following link:
https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/civil-3d-forum/unexpected-scaling-when-inserting-drawing-in-autocad-2010/td-p/2606279

I used the command "- DWGUNITS" and typed "no" when prompted for scaling. It fixed the issue.

Thank you all. Sorry for my late posting.

Hi Rajesh,
"...copy the object and paste it in drawing B, the object becomes bigger in drawing B."
Indeed, 12X bigger, because of the relationship of inches to feet. Even though you assigned a Metric IRENET95.IrishTM Coordinate System to your drawings, the AutoCAD units are inches. So Civil 3D doesn't quite know what to do.
You could also have used SCALE Command and chose the lower left corner of the square as base point, then 0.08333333. That puts you in the same place, same size, as Drawing A.
Dave

Thanks Dave for your reply.
The setting in -DWGUNITS and UNITS is same in both the drawings. Still why the objects getting scaled up?
I was just checking the drawing A, even when i copy (CNTL + C) and paste (CNTL + V) in the same drawing, the objects are getting scaled up.
The issue is being resolved only when I set 'no' in response to scale objects from other drawings upon insert?.

I don't understand why the objects are getting scaled up when the setting is 'Yes' for 'scale objects from other drawings upon insert?'.

Rajesh,
"I don't understand why the objects are getting scaled up..."
Me either, other than noting that Civil 3D only likes Feet or Meters. It does not work well with Inches or Millimeters. If you use Meter Units with that Metric Coordinate System then this problem goes away. (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Map 3D all in agreement) I tested just now, setting -DWGUNITS to 6 in both drawings and accepting defaults. Copy/Paste works perfectly with a 100 Meter Square.
Dave
