Question On ZW .dxf and .dwg Imports To Autodesk

I'm a newbie to AD and trying to import/copy 2D drawing elements to a new Autodesk sheet in an existing file e.g. basefile.dwg.

I have dwg and associated .dxf files that were developed in ZW CAD. These can be imported and loaded by Autodesk into the basefile.dwg but with a caveat. AutoDesk always gets proprietarily offended and throws this proxy alert hissy fit DM whenever the basefile.dwg is opened:

This is resolvable by picking one of the options in the popup.

Regardless, after saving the basefile.dwg and reopening it, this pop warning keeps reappearing. It's a nuisance because I need to share the basefile.dwg with other Autodesk users and would like to stop this from happening. So questions:

1. how to permanently suppress/stop this popup from happening once the imported dxf and/or dwg are saved to autodesk basefile.dwg?

2. If #1 isn't possible (without manual intervention of the user every time the basefile.dwg is opened) then is it possible to copy the 2D drawing elements/vector images from the dxf to a new sheet in the autodesk basefile.dwg? Would doing this stop the proxy window popup from reoccurring so the basefile.dwg opens normally?

I'm also assuming that if is this is possible, then the existing model space in the basefile.dwg would be automatically updated to show the newly added drawing objects. Is this correct?

3. Would doing #2 be easier if using the .dwg file instead?

4. I'm uncertain what the term "proxy graphics" means in the popup notification? The objects in the model space (and .dwg sheet) remain unaltered regardless which option is selected. Technically, the dxf and dwg were developed in ZN CAD. And since they can be imported/opened by Autodesk, then is there a way to manually modify/remove these proxy graphic dependencies in Autodesk? Then save the Autodesk file so that it could be reopened as normal without the pop notification?

5. Worse case scenario is all the 2D drawings in the .dxf or .dwg are copied to a new Autocad sheet in the basefile.dwg. Which would be somewhat time consuming. So would doing this even be feasible?

There are probably some objects zw cad creates which causes AutoCAD to bring up this notification window. To disable it from appearing at the AutoCAD command prompt enter:

PROXYNOTICE and set this to 0

If you always want AutoCAD to show the graphics at the AutoCAD command prompt enter:

PROXYSHOW and enter 1

You can read more about this here

Thank you for the quick follow up! I can easily do what you suggested on my end. But two questioons:

1. what if I did this then saved the file in autodesk (as the basefile.dwg). Then shared it with another autodesk user. Wouldn't the same proxy notice popup occur if once this user opened the file?

2. If I disable the notification as you suggested, save and share the file, can this be reenabled by another user? i.e. in which case the problem begins to propagate all over again.

I guess what I'm asking is: if I were to download an object enabler from the ZW site then save the dwg, would this permanently block autodesk from doing this popup window for users with whom the file is shared in the future?

Sorry for the late reply. I updated my reply above. Are you saying that if I disable the notification, save and share that autodesk wouldn't throw the popup. But that another user could re-enable it if they were autodesk proficient? I'm sharing with n00bs like myself and so didn't want to complicate things unecessarily.

yes another user on their AutoCAD session if PROXYNOTICE is set to 1 will get that notification window again.

Likewise that same user if set PROXYSHOW to 0 won’t see the proxy graphics regardless.

The Autocad software allows for these individual user settings for versatility and flexibility.

Ok so assuming I can find an object enabler app from Autodesk: if I were to install this app, then would I be able to remove i.e. sanitize the ZW objects from the imported ZW dxf drawing then As the existence of these ZW CAD elements are what is giving Autodesk proxy notifications?

If you could that again would only apply to you. Another user running on their version of AutoCAD would have to do the same. The best solution is to eliminate whatever the elements are in the zwcad dxf that’s bringing in these proxy graphics into AutoCAD

Ok so how to do that? Does autodesk have a list of popular 3rd part CAD vendors like ZW. So that autodesk provides such an app for dl on the autodesk end? Or must I goto the ZW vendor?

You’ll have to contact Zwcad on this. Since cad applications are typically not compatible with each other you’ll typically end up with this problem. That’s why it’s best to only work with the same software application across the board.

Ok thank you! Is there a forum where cad illiterate users can ask other more proficient users to recreate a simple drawing? It literally consists of several rectangles/square shapes in a groundplan view. The drawing would be added to an existing blank sheet
